    Opinions Wanted

I'm looking into a new polymer pistol in 9mm. So far I've narrowed it down to three:

    Gen 4 Glock 19
    Springfield XD 9mm Service Model
    S&W M&P

I'd like to hear opinions from those who own or have shot them. I've held the XD and M&P.

I'm close enough to take a drive to Valkyrie Arms to take a look at the 4th gen Glock. I've had a G19, and the idea of a little smaller grip intrigues me. I have heard all the bad news about the new recoil spring, but is this still an issue?

Anyway, opinions are greatly appreciated and I'm open to other suggestion.

IMHO, Glock makes the best 9mm pistol...they are "best of breed".

Get the Glock 19 and don't look back.

Try a P99 with AS trigger before finalizing your decision. I *HATE* the QA and DAO triggers on P99's, but the AS is the one trigger system I wish I could put in everything. I like Glocks and M&P's, and have nothing bad to say about those, either. The stock trigger on the P99 AS is just something you should experience. Some people don't care for DA/SA, but at least 4 people have bought the gun after shooting mine.

I went through the same decision recently. My first gun is a Sig P226 Navy, but I am doing a class in a few weeks and wanted to get a gun I wouldn't mind beating on, scuffing up in a holster, throwing to the ground, and putting away dirty. Polymer.

My choices were the same, though I was going to do the XDM.

For reasons I don't recall, I eliminated the M&P. I went to VA, handled the XDM and the Gen4 G19. The XDM was OK, but the G19 felt perfect. The smallest grip fit my hand like it was designed for me. I figured I'd end up with a Glock in my collection anyway, so I did it.

Perfect. Not the greatest trigger on the planet and it is blocky, but it feels right and does the job. No fuss, no muss, no FTF or FTE, and brass ejects appropriately out and up. Just like my Sig, it worked out of the box.

I frequent Reed's. Let me know if you want to meet me there so you can shoot it, though I'm sure it shoots just like your previous G19.

Glockman19, you could have just posted a smiley face and we'd all know your opinion.

          G19. You won't regret it.

Sig lovers are going to hate me, but the ones I've tried have terrible triggers. To me it seemed like trigger reset was horrid. I was considering a p229, but the grip wasn't for me.

I might have to take you up on the offer

Another question, does the 4th gen take 3rd gen magazines?

I've only shot an XD once when they first came out. To me I thought the trigger reset was really long.

G19 but in Gen3. There are still some problems with the Gen4's, but most of them have been corrected with a new spring. I just prefer the Gen3's to the Gen4's.
