Glock23 -> 9mm conversion

Hi all,

I have a Glock23 on the way in the near future and I was curious exactly which internals of the G23 differ from the G19 (aside from the barrel, obviously).

If I were to convert the G23 to 9mm, are there any other parts that need to be swapped? Are the G23 and G19 slides interchangeable enough that I can basically mix/match them on the same frame?

I understand that I'd need a specific aftermarket 9mm barrel on the Glock23 due to differences between the G19 and G23 barrel profiles. Any recommendations on the various aftermarket barrels to consider? (Storm Lake, Lone Wolf, etc.)

I saw some snippets that the extractor might need to be changed on the G23 for more reliability if running 9mm, but I thought I'd see if I could get a quick answer from the various Glock gurus here.

Finally, I saw some advice that people would not advise a converted Glock23 as a "carry"/defensive type weapon due to possible reliability issues. Any truth to that? I'd run the pistol as either a training or possibly a competition/range pistol mostly. I do not carry a firearm professionally.

Storm Lake and nothing else I have only tried that conversion barrel on a G22 and it shot really, really nice with it.

plenty of G19 mags here, so I'd just need to pick out an aftermarket barrel for the right price.

The LoneWolf barrels are offset to line up the pin, extractor and ejector. It looks kind of funny at first when you examine it closely, but works fine. Mine 40-to-9 conversion has been 100% so far with close to 1k rounds fired. I can't speak for other brands, but I am sure others will.

I'm pretty happy with my Lone Wolf 9mm conversion in my G23. The price is pretty good and it's performed. Just the barrel and G19 mags. It has a malfunction approximately two or three times every 100 rounds, but a tap/rack fixes it. I would never use it for protection unless it's all I could grab. I would also not want to use it in a match.

I have used my Stormlake in LE matches/quals. No issues. 100% even with Wolf ammo.

you don't see that G23 in the case at VA anymore do you? gonna stop by to do paperwork next week. i decided to grab it as a "spare" and because the G23 EXO they got is the one that comes with the Ameriglo I-dot Pro sights pre-installed. i will probably convert it to 9mm for sure as a range toy, which is why i'm looking at options for aftermarket barrels.

thanks to the rest for the inputs. it sounds like reliability reports are hit/miss, so i guess i'll have to see how it goes in-person.

i suppose i have a M&P9 and an unmodified G19 EXO as the go-to options anyhow on the "reliable" front.

Just curious why you'd buy a .40 and want to convey it to a 9mm? If you wanted a 9mm, you should of just purchased the G19.

I understand the .22 conversion because the cost of ammo, but 9mm ammo is not that much cheaper then .40. Unless, you're thinking this is a SHTF kinda thing and all you'll be able to find is 9mm once the zombies come.

Also, not sure where you compete, but GSSF requires all factory parts.

i have a g-22 also and i get .40 pretty cheap at wally world. but i was wondering if there was anyone else who sells a .22 conversion besides advantage arms? is it possible to have them mailed to a cali address? i just saw a brick of 22 the other day for really cheap

In my case, the G22 was a LE issued weapon to me and has saved my bacon more than once. It holds a special place in my heart. When I left the Dept, I bought it from them for a song. I prefer shooting the 9mm and since I dont need multiple guns sitting lonely in my safe, I chose the conversion barrel.

There are two that I know of: AA and tacsol. Yes, they can be mailed to CA residents as they are 10 round mags.
