I want to buy a Taurus Pt1911 but it has been brought to my attention by a fellow CGN member that it recently dropped off the roster... So what will I have to do to get my hands on one? Someone told me to utilize the single shot exemption but I have no idea what that is? SO someone please fill me in, I heard even if a gun drops off the roster it doesnt necessarily make it illegal here.

The CA DOJ approved list for handgun sales, shows what handguns a CA FFL dealer can legally transfer to a non-exempt person. The list does determine what handguns are CA legal, just which handguns can be transfered by a CA FFL dealer.
The Taurus PT1911 was never on the approved list.
While out-of-state, a Taurus PT1911 can be modified into a single-shot pistol with a 6" barrel. In that configuration, it would be exempt from the approved list. After the single-shot pistol is 4473/DROS'd + 10 day wait, you can legally modify the pistol into any configuration that does not make it into a prohibited weapon (assault weapon, SBR, SBS, etc).
IMO...
In terms of quality, reliability, accuracy...

I think if you do a PTP on a used one its just like anything else. If new, as i understand it its some sort of modified magazine made to only allow one rd inserted. So it becomes like those single shot breech loading specialty almost curio-ish and exempt from roster. tricky part is either getting the outside CA FFL that will do that service or finding an FFL in CA that has them in stock and configured to Single shot exemption. After you get it, you gotta follow dem' 10 rds mags like any other rostered handgun. Or you can be the envy of your range and hang onto the super cool one shot "sled" magazine so you look tactical with constant frantic hand movement in reloading.

this might help you understand the single shot exemption
This should help you get the ball rolling on what to do
call around see who you can buy from and do the conversion for you. Essentially what you are doing is using these guys as middlemen, meaning you buy it from someplace online, ship it to a FFL dealer that converts it, then from there, the shop ships it to your own FFL.
You get the pistol do all the paperwork, wait, and then convert back.-my brother once wrote to me " In the Marine Corps there is a saying,'The more you sweat in peace time the less you bleed in war'..."-
