My buddy just picked up a GLOCK, and I was wondering, exactly how safe is the trigger safety? I like the fact that they are ready to go, but is there the danger of the firing accidentally?

Glock Safety

The safety of glocks and pistols like glocks is a matter of some controversy.
they are not an accident waiting to happen.
the gun is well engineered, it will only fire if an object enters the trigger guard, makes contact with the face of the trigger to at least it's midpoint where the trigger safety is located, and presses the trigger to the rear with sufficient force over sufficient distance to discharge the weapon.
This object is expected to be a finger from a shooter with the intention of firing the gun, some people feel the chances of an object firing the gun when the gun is handled, or of the shooter unintentionally pulling the trigger with their finger, are non-trivial and choose other guns.
Most people are comfortable with the way glocks operate and do not view them as a significant safety risk.
All guns can have accidents, All guns can also be handled safely. The Range is a place where you carry a gun around and spend most of your time shooting it.
The Real World is a place where you carry a gun around and spend most of your time not shooting it.
Plan Accordingly.

The *ONLY* way a glock goes off is if the trigger is activated.
Same with XDs (must also have the grip-safety activated)."Or, let Oregon have the northern counties, let NV and AZ have the eastern counties, and turn the western counties into a Federal wildlife sanctuary where the rest of the country can come and see emotional, barely sentient Californians in the wild." - bulgronComment

Glock pistols have three safeties, the trigger safety is only one. As stated above the only way a well maintained Glock fires is if the trigger is pulled. Remember this is a striker fired (essentially double action) pistol and takes more effort to pull than a SA 1911. I have seen loaded Glocks literally thrown 10 yards without firing upon landing. But, by the same token I have seen a Glock fire when someone was careless by allowing a foriegn object into the trigger guard...Comment

First off.....
Let me say...Welcome to Cal Guns.!!!
Second...Glocks are perfectly safe.
They have dropped them out of Helicopters with a loaded chamber. Nothing went boom. Every kind of test has been done. They are safe.
Consider them like you would a REVOLVER. Don't put your finger inside the trigger guard until BOOM time. (and the weapon is pointed down-range or at a Zombie)
Did I mention that I love GLOCK pistols..?...hehe
Take care
Bob
PS...don't HOLSTER a GLOCK with your finger inside the trigger guard.
Practice good habits around weapons.May the Bridges I burn light the way.

Uhh, if you pull the trigger, it's going to fire. Simple as that. They don't have a manual safety where you can make it not possible for the gun to fire like on a 1911. Glock's "Safe Action Trigger" is really more of a safety against discharging when the gun is dropped or anything other than the trigger being pulled.Comment

Finger always off the trigger unless you're ready to fire. Other than that, you're just as safe as any other firearm.OCSD Approved CCW Instructor

I would like to weigh in. I believe that when people hear about Glock Safety issues it is regarding the relatively light trigger and the partially cocked striker. The Glock safety coalition always points out how they can be dropped from aircraft, and that your booger hook is your main safety. But the reality is that the trigger (while heavier than a SA trigger) is relatively light and there is no manual safety to engage.
Nobody would ever recommend carrying a single action or da/sa cocked and unlocked because the trigger pull is so light. So my opinion (which will ruffle a lot of feathers) is that the Glock is at a higher risk of ND due to its operating system. Especially when compared to DAO and DA/SA pistols with equivalent drop safeties.
I don't believe Glocks are unsafe, and I wouldn't call them dangerous. I wouldn't hesitate to carry one either, but I would say they are relatively less safe than other platforms.
