de .44 to .50 legality

Good evening my late night calguns browsers!!!

I am considering buying a matte black ca legal de .44 cal. i reckon i can pick this up for about $1200 after all is said and done.

heres my plan=

buy the .44 cal legal, send it off to be re-finished in hard chrome finish

purchase all of the caliber barrel/magazine enhancements (6 inch .357 .50 cal barrels clips etc and 10 inch .44cal .357 . and .50 cal barrels and clip) send them off for finishing in hard chrome or hopefully buy them factory direct already in this finish (if this is at all possible)

heres my question???????
- where is the best place to have this pistol refinished/will they complete this task for me?
-will this be in any way illegal??
- will i have any trouble re-selling this firearm private party status in CA?
- would anyone like to purchase this whole setup once i had my fun with it and if so for how much???

the pistol would come in a case just like this IS THERE ANY DEMAND FOR THIS ITEM IF I WERE TO CONSIDER RESELLING???

If you are buying a new one from dealer you can only buy black 44 mag with CA designation (due to firing pin block)

Once you buy this you can have it refinished in any finish.
You can buy different barrels, bolt, magazine to change caliber. No legal issue there.

However if you can find one in private party it can be in any finish and/or caliber.

After you buy a new .44 California approved DE, you can do what ever you want to it. Refinish it, add caliber conversions, go with different barrel lengths, what ever. If you resell it to a dealer, or PPT with another person.

- Yes your method is perfectly legal
- No you will have no problems PPT'ing here in CA, granted you don't gold tiger stripe it...then you may have a hard time finding a buyer

I did the exact same thing you are proposing.

I had Magnum Research do the finish job. It looks great but it took them FOREVER to get the pistol back to me.

You will definitely need to be patient. It seemed the more I called them the longer it took.

Also, the finish looks good but the finish is a lot more maintenance than the standard black finish was. I suppose this is true for any shiny chrome pistol.

There is an outfit called "Ultimate Outdoors" that beats Magnum Research on their own prices.

They don't have a lot of inventory, but saving an extra fifty bucks here and there makes it worth looking at.

I'm buying my second desert eagle in 2 weeks via this route. Got mine for 850.00 with only one round through the gun. I am going to buy the .50 barrel straight from magnum research to save time. I'm gonna two-tone this DE though. I am getting the stock done in bright chrome and all of the barrels done in black chrome. Should be nice.

I just checked. They have two 10 inch 50 barrels @ $404.65 in black.

Magnum Research gets $459.

See if that helps your budget.

I think this topic is starting to compete with "whats the best 1911" for repeated occurrences.

Like others said, yes this'd be completely legal. Just keep in mind the package you're suggesting there, while awesome, is going to run you nearly ~$4000. Also, there are not any clip-fed Magnum Research pistols, the Desert Eagles use a magazine feeding system.

Post some pics when you get it all together, that should be a neat setup.

Magnum Research barely ever does any work themselves. I'd bet money they contract it out to a third party.

Magnum Research contracts out the finish jobs.
I heard Checkmate did finish for a while then Ford's Custom or some other company.

You can get a better pricing and faster turn around with Checkmate or Ford's.
