    COMPETITION PISTOL? which one?

Hi, Wife looking into competition shooting 45 cal. she likes the power of a 45.
read for one series majority use 1911s or glocks, - looking into 1911s now, don't care for Glocks
looking for 1000$ retail online price or a few hundred less.

    any others?

HK seems to have too high bore axis with too much kick, also their 45 USP is too big in grip.

Already own SW MP so don't want another one.

Sig226 X fire is way too expensive and too big a grip for her.

    Thanks for your input

What sort of competition? PPC, USPSA/IPSC, IDPA, Bullseye? That will play a big part in which gun.

What does she like about the .45? Slimmer grip, recoil stroke, controls?

The type of competition and what she likes about what she's shooting will play a big part in what the ultimate gun is for her. I would highly recommend shooting what you already have until you are sure you want to continue competing and in which discipline/class/division. Different tools for different jobs.

CZs in general (even though not necessarily .45) have a good reputation for low bore/axis and felt recoil while having a slimmer grip and still being able to accept higher or limited capacity double stack mags (read easier reloading). Some don't like the trigger as it's hinged vs straight back like a 1911 style gun, but to each his/her own.

    Nothing beats a 2011 though...

    My 2 cents, change welcome.

Pretty tough to beat a single stack for someone with small hands and if .45 is a must then my choices would be Kimber any model that fits in your budget, Springfield Armory loaded or above, or a Sig 220.

      I'd go with a 1911.

If you live in the L A area then go to Oaktree they have many different models to rent.

Oh Frank is correct if you don't tell us what game she wants to play then it's pretty tough to make a good recommendation.

      Good luck
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

I have a Sig P220 and I love that gun for a .45 platform. Another gun she might like is an XD-45 Tactical (5 inch slide) Those handle recoil well and are pretty slim on the grip too, and Springer Precision can get the gun smoother than butter :-)

I did local range Action Pistol shooting using a Springfield 1911 in 9mm. No need for the kick and cost of a 45 when you can race with a 9mm

+1 on the 1911 in 9mm especially if you are not going to reload. Also the XD has a grip almost like the 1911.
9mm or 45 and holds 10 rounds, or if you plan on reloading, 40 S&W loaded to minor is softer than a 9mm. Are you going to shoot IDPA or USPSA?
If you can't shoot good, at least look good shooting

9mm? CZ 75 Tactical Sport. Awesome handgun.

We're newbies, she's now having private target shooting lessons, so that'll be first-whatever league that is. Obviously, we haven't been exposed to competition yet.

I'm sure we'll do IPDA in the future. Has a SW MP 9compact already.

She's likes the big bang of a 45. that's about it.

We're looking to build our inventory so we want a bigger caliber. Already have a 40cal also

XD seems similar to her SW MP compact/combat pistol type but it is a good buy. Would prefer the HK USP just due to "feel"

1911 is a different type of pistol, seems more popular in one type of competition I read.

Your information is a bit overwhelming, will have to look into it more.

                Thanks for your help

get a nighthawk!!! its expensive, but well worth it for competition. i have noticed user popndrop selling high end 1911's. from what i hear, he is a good guy.
I am offically a gun nut!!!!!

What you like and what works best for the game can be two differnt things.

Like others have said, you need to choose a game, shoot what you have first and talk to other shooters in that game, they will be your best source for what works and what doesn't.
                    where are my pistol mags?

                      competition pistol

If she likes the .45,a Colt Goldcup is an excellent choice. especially using the 185 grain Semi-wadcutter load. Goldcups are expensive, but worth every penny! By all means contact popndrop.I've dealt with him. Stand up guy.
If he does not have something for sale, he might have some good leads.

                        +1 on Nighthawk
                        At the 1K area, I would recommend a high-end Kimber or Springfield 5" 1911.

Their availability of accessories and upgrade possibilities are endless.

Does your wife want to win sometimes? 1911 is the way.

Depending on how much expenses fit into your equation, just know that HK starts off expensive and gets really expensive when you start buying extra magazines for gaming.

XD comes with holsters and holds its value pretty well, so you save a little money on the holster as you try things out.
