SPRINGFIELD XD LOCKED UP. Barrel slid forward and feed ramp hooked.

Me and a friend were shooting his XD and he had taken the 40 barrel out and put the 9mm barrel in. He released the slide and it LOCKED UP. The barrel slid forward and the feed ramp hooked its self under something. (not sure what exactly) It will not budge! Does anyone know anything that might be of some help so he doesn't have to send it to a smith. Thank you in advance.

Is there a round in the chamber?
Just once, I got a an empty cartridge (wolf) stuck in the chamber (it apparently split after firing). I was able to rack the slide back enough to field strip it, then remove the barrel and ram a cleaning rod through to eject the shell. Maybe this could work for you? I know it sounds like your slide is stuck, but you might be able to muscle it open.

Holding the gun upside down on one hand, strike just forward of the trigger guard with a deadblow hammer or rubber mallet. Use enough force that you can maintain control of the gun but will likely dislodge the stuck barrel. Do not do this if live round in chamber. Next option is wooden dowel greater that barrel diameter carved down so that a portion will rear both in barrel and on lip of barrel. With gun braced against solid surface, gently increase tapping force against opposite end of dowel. Again, NO live ammo. Good luck.

I've never heard the 9mm barrel could fit on the 40 frame. Where did he get this info from?

It's not the standard 9mm barrel, but a conversion. You can get them for the .40 converting it to a 9mm (you need to buy 9mm mag) or a .375 (you can use the STD .40 mag) with kits from PRP.

If it has a live round in the chamber, I would let a smith handle the problem, call them first and let them know you have a live round in the chamber, don't just show up with it that way.

If it is not, try a wood dowel length and a rubber mallet and. Use the dowel on the end of the slide, and try to bang it loose.

There is NOT a live round in the chamber. I will let him know what you all said and see if we can get the feed ramp unhooked. Thanks everyone.
