Gents,
My grandma in Alabama recently handed my dad a marked Cz-27 that grandpa brought home from the war. Dad and I are both in CA so the pistol is still with Grandma at the moment. Dad is offering it to me, but we are both stumped on how to legally bring it into the state and/or transfer ownership. Neither of us are "gun people" so we are both completely new to all this.
My research so far has turned up the following:
1) The pistol is listed on the BATF Curio Or Relics List (1972-2007), Page 22
2) Importing C&Rs seems to generally require an FFL dealer or at least a "Collector" FFL + CA DOJ Certificate of Eligibility
3) Interfamily transfers seem to be exempt from FFL transfer requirements, just need to fill out a form and send it in with $19 to the CA DOJ
We are getting hung up on (2) and (3). Do we need to go to an FFL just to bring it into the state? Or could Grandma or Dad have it FedExed from AL directly to me, and then I just fill out the interfamily transfer form?
Thanks,
nrs
