    Dust cover rub on RIA.

Is this normal? The gun functions fine but it has wore the finish on the front of the slide. I have read mixed things about dust cover rub on 1911's some will say it's normal and doesn't matter if the gun functions some say not so much.

Wow that sucks give RIA a call and see what they tell you. I would not be happy if this happened to my 1911. 

call ARMSCOR. and if they dont fix the problems. get a dremel and grind down the inside of the frame. until it dosnt hit the slide.

That's normal. Unless it's wearing clean through the finish to the bare steel, or it's galling the parts...leave it be. If you try and remove metal from the inside of the dust cover, the slide to frame play might be enough to allow the slide to move even further over and make the problem worse. Remember: guns are tools for launching bullets. Would you be upset if your new hammer or saw got wear on it's finish during use?

Ya, its going to hit the slide. most cost effective 1911s do eventually.

Thats not a typical wear spot on a 1911 slide IMO.(if I'm seeing it in the first pic correctly) Can you see any protrutions inside the frame?

Its also weird because RIA's have a very wide (loose fitting) dust cover. Its angled down as well.

This is why I recommend people buy multiples of the same gun, that way you'll have a shooter and a BBQ gun.

Seriously though use causes wear, this is normal wear, not excessive.

It's a sub-$500 1911. It's meant to be shot and put to work.

Am I missing something on this thread? You shoot this gun right, stuff tends to wear/get marks. If you wanted a safe queen, I dont know what to tell you.

I dont have he link but... If you go on the 1911 RRA subforums, there's a picture thread of the owners doing a refinishing job. And they look 100 times better than when it came out of the factory.

The money you save can go into customizing the finish, if looks are a big problem to you.

I didn't buy it to be a safe queen it just am new to 1911's and did not know if this was normal or not. If I got it to be a safe queen I would have got a nickel one. I shoot the heck out of this thing but just doesn't seem like the dustcover should be rubbing to me unless I'm wrong. It functions fine and I haven't had any reliability issues. There are no protrusions inside the dustcover but I notice it seems to get tighter and hug that side of the dust cover when the slide is all the way back.

IMO there is nothing better than the "love"-marks you put on your own tools! Enjoy the bumps and scratches, you'll fondly remember the things you were doing to get them!

Thing is I have done nothing to this thing but really just shoot it so my only concern is of something being misaligned or something. This is not holster wear it is plain to see dust cover rub. I took out spring plu and barrel and the slide matches up perfectly without rub, When I put back in the spring with the barrel it seems to torque to the area where it's rubbing like the spring is putting pressure on it to move in that direction.
