HK P2000 .40s&w Variant 3 Range Report

I just recently bought a used HK P2000 .40s&w Variant 3 from a fellow Calgunner here, & finally got around to taking it to the range last night.

Here are my impressions, please keep in mind that I've been shooting my Sig P226 .40s&w for the last 12+ years, since I turned 21. I LOVE my P226.

I've been wanting to add a polymer gun to the stable, been trying REAL hard to like the HK's (no interest in Glocks at all), I recently owned/shot a HK USPc .40, USPf .45, didn't like either one, so I finally came across this P2000. Here are my impressions, the recoil is pretty harsh, although pretty accurate. I used the Walmart Winchester (white box) ammo. It felt like my P226 (yes I know it's a full size vs. compact) & my P229 shoots/feels smooth like butter... very refined, where as the word that comes to mind with the HK's in general including the P2000 is that it's just harsh/rough & not as refined as the Sigs.

Here is one of my targets from last night @ 7 yrds out, I shot about 100 rounds. I consistently shot low... (anyone have ideas why? doesn't happen with my Sigs) Is there a different point of impact/point of aim from Sigs vs HK's?

Try a different ammo brand for your H&K.

Otherwise, just use your sweet SIGs.

I have a P2000 V3 in 9mm---one of my favorite pistols---the 9mm is not nearly as snappy as the .40---keep in mind, the P226 is a "full-size" gun and the P2000 is a "compact" pistol that also weighs less than the SIG. Shoot it a bunch more and see if it grows on you.

my buddy who went with me was shooting his P229 .40 commented "wow that gun is loud!"

Yea I will shoot it some more & see if it grows on me.

I was very tempted to pull out my P226 last night because I missed the feel of it compared to the P2000, but decided against it since I didn't want to clean TWO guns tonight...haha

thanks, I was aiming that way, with the front sight covering where I wanted to hit... I'll check again next range trip.

are M&P's similar..on where they sight? Because my pattern looked quite a bit like that too..

Put about 100 rounds through my friends HK P2000 .40 a couple weeks ago and loved it. Definitely a gun I would like to look into purchasing in the future. I shot a little low as well with it FWIW. Sure it's just the different sights that you're not used to. Nice purchase though.

It's good to get the many, different perspectives.

Check out my response I left on SigForum...basically saying test out different backstraps for a quick fix...but nothing beats trigger time with live ammo.

You might be letting your wrist drop slightly? I understand that you have been shooting for a long while, but to combat the snap you may be letting it drop slightly and not even noticing. I did that on my Baer the first 100 or so rounds because of the recoil compared to my P2000 in 9mm. Just a thought...?

try one size up on the backstrap.

my medium backstrap doesn't interface well with the heel of my hand, but the large size is better.
