    LC9 for female hands?

    Hi all,

Looking for a Ruger LC9 for the wife. Question for those who have one, how is it for small female hands? Does the slide take an average strength to open, or is it lighter that average? She can't operate the slide on my new-ish XDm and is leaning towards a revolver right now, but I'd like to see her having more than 5 or 6 rounds for HD.

Is there a dealer in the SF Bay Area who has one for display or for sale? We just missed the one at Valkyrie Arms last week. I'd love to see if she is comfortable with it before buying one.

What other guns should we try? She could handle the slide on a Sig P238, but I really want to stick to as few calibers as possible. 9mm, 5.56, 7.62x39 and 12 ga. is all I want to keep.

    Thanks.

Does she want an LC9? It should be her rather than you asking this question…

I recommend a revolver if shes not able to operate the slide very well (which alot of women cant). There down right reliable and 6 is sufficient for what she'll need it for.

The Sig is excellent but then she's dealing with a SA only gun, which is fine but I think she'd be more inclined for a standard DAO weapon.

Thanks for that recommendation. If we rent there, leave, then after trying the guns at the other shops, come back to buy one from them, do they still give you the $25 discount?

OK, we'll look into revolvers again if we have to.

It's no problem at all. I have seen plenty of women who are competent with a semi automatics function, but this takes the thought out of the operation with a revolver. As simple as loading and its a decent trigger and no worries of lint retarding the slide or safeties being on and no worries of limp wristing. Is this for CCW or just HD?

Didn't Oaklander already post something about this? "it has to be about ( inches?"

Look at the S&W MP9 compact too.

yeah you still get the discount just as long as you keep the receipt. as for classes if you are from the area I would go with US Firearms Co. in Sunnyvale that is the best gun store around and they have a in house gunsmith named Eric that knows everything there is to know

Only for HD for now. Then this will be her play gun as well. We got trips planned to Front Sight, so it will also be my back up gun to the XDm, and vice versa, mine, her back up.

Thanks, it looks like we'll have to do lots of store visits. Given that we bought memberships at Front Sight, does it still make sense to take local classes? Maybe to learn the basics before taking FS classes?
