Buying online?

On a $2000 gun, you might save some money (I saved $400 on my M1A Rifle buying online). But, on a $500 gun, you are not going to save much (if any), buying online. Just buy local and support the local dealer of your choice, if you can.

If you are buying online because that is the only place you can find what you are looking for, that is a different matter. Buds has a good reputation, and good prices.

One of the shops I called said they'd charge $100. That brought the total price way over. Another guy said 60 so I may go that route

My go-to guy in the Sacramento area is Rob over at Golden State Tactical in Fair Oaks. He charges $60 total for the transfer, which includes the DROS, and he's a great guy to deal with.

I'm looking to buy a CZ 2075 Rami 9mm from Bud's and have never done so online. I understand that you have to find an FFL willing to accept the transfer. What are reasonable fees to pay for this? It seems like the prices online are for the most part cheaper, why is this?

I charge $35 transfer, $25 dros, plus any applicable sales tax (as required by the BOE for out of state transfers).

make use of the FFL locator found on Gunbroker. The FFLs listed will have a list of their rate of fees.I transfered through a small shop that charged 40 + dros, which is far less than anyone else around.

Also: A lot of the markup you see locally is merely a result of CA's inflated prices, and small shops being kept small by their inability to buy in bulk.

many dealers hate Bud's (and its distributor) because Bud's has a hook up with a distributor that will let Bud's drop-ship fireams directly from the distributor. By doing it that way, Bud's can do lots of volume without having to actually stock the firearm (the distributor's warehouse is Bud's inventory) and doesn't have to pay to have the firearm shipped to Bud's, logged in and out of Bud's bound book, and then shipped to the buyer.

Given Bud's volume I seriously doubt there is a distributor level taking their cut on most makes. It simply wouldn't make sense to as I doubt many distributors do more business than Bud's even on one specific brand.

While there might be some legal framework separating Bud's and most manufacturers I seriously doubt it's an actual distributor/jobber.

That's really not true. I was looking at an S&W revolver. MSRP is about $850.00 My local dealer had it for $839.99. With tax it would have been $913.49. Bud's was 660.00, no tax plus $25.00 to receive here locally or $685.00

$913.49-685.00 = 228.49 or 25% less. The difference for me between buying the gun and not buying the gun.
