    engraving/etching a handgun magazine

I was going to give a friend a new handgun magazine body and was thinking of engraving or etching some text on them. I plan on going to one of the local shops that does trophies, plaques, etc.

Unfortunately, I'm a bit unfamiliar with handgun mechanics. Are there any no-go locations on the magazine for engraving/etching? Obviously the feed area of the mag should be avoided. Can the sides be marked or will marking this area the affect the functioning of the system? The heel of the magazine is a possible candidate but offers limited real estate however.

    Many thanks for your input!!!

    The whole outside is fine.

Be advised that the slide lock on your pistol will probably drag on the side of the magazine as it slides in and out so it will scratch any engraving above the cutout for the magazine latch.
