CERTIFIABLE RIMFIRE JUNKIE.Originally posted by MrPlinkwhat guitar would you recommend for SHTF?
I think I would go with a Telecaster. The bolt on neck would be the strongest to deal with terrorist zombies. I know most folks will say Strat, but I think the trem system is unreliable.
I mean, who needs to dive bomb when SHTF? That only happens in movies.

this particular python is the special target version that only comes with 8-in barrel.
from http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_years..._8_barrel_made
Colt only made these in 1981.
Cabelas has a blued one for sale right now for $1,900:
There's another bright nickel one on gunbroker for $3,000:

I really don't care how many were made. Sure, it's worth that much to some folks because of the rarity ... just not to me. That's all I'm saying.
The most valuable pistol in my collection is a mint condition 1925 Colt Commercial 1911A1 which has been appraised at north of $5000. I purchased it because I appreciate the beauty and history behind it (also because I found it for significantly less). To someone else it might not be worth that much but to me it is.
Bottom line ... I don't think pythons look good with nickel finishes. Colt Royal blue is extremely handsome.Last edited by dascoyne; 02-28-2011, 10:08 AM.sigpic

So its a .38 spl cylinder. Since .357 fires .38 spl, isn't this just a Python with a cylinder of inferior steel, unable to handle .357 pressures and with a long barrel? It sounds like its rare in that noone would buy a python that shoots .38 spl only, when they could just as well buy one in .357 and shoot either cartridge. Or i'm missing something that justifies a $3000 price tag.Dont go against the grain if you cant handle it - Wu TangComment

yes, the total length is about 14.5" about the size from my elbow to my knuckles.
the uses for it is for hunting, or target. even at full 357 loads, the muzzle barley have any movements. you are more likely to get movement from fatigue or bad trigger discipline than recoil.
i think there were more in .38 SPL than 250. i know that back in the 60-70s there were regular supply of python target in 8" 38 SPL, but blue. i think the 250 is only for the recent production (i.e. 90s) SS 8" variant.
i dont think its the steel, but rather the taper in font of the cylinders. since 357 case is longer, the taper at the end of the cylinder is further ahead than .38SPL. properly length taper will prevent unnecessary gas leakage thus producing higher muzzle velocity which improves accuracy over longer distance. So its a .38 spl cylinder. Since .357 fires .38 spl, isn't this just a Python with a cylinder of inferior steel, unable to handle .357 pressures and with a long barrel? most modern revolver have this taper rather than the bore through cylinder of the old revolvers. this tape also improves the bullet alignment to the forcing cone as the bullet is leaving the shell.Comment

The .38spl targets were a limited run. They were designed for, duh, target shooting. lol
That price is way too high though. I sold my 8" royal blue .38spl target for $1200 just over a year ago. NIB. Unfired. They're more valuable as collectors items for the limited run, but not for that much.
RyanThe following statement is true.

They only made 250 cuz no one wanted them in 38's just cuz it was a short run does not make it a rarity. As for a target gun?? well most are blued versions due to glare, It has to have some value to fetch a price like that and that only comes from demand! or someone just really want's it?Last edited by toby; 02-28-2011, 3:45 PM.Comment
