As everyone said, plain old 230gr ball. Put a couple drops of oil on the rails, barrel hood and where the barrel locks up with the barrel bushing every 100 rounds or so. Clean after 500 rounds. The crud buildup mixed with the oil helps lap everything for the best possible fit during that first 500 rounds. Some say it's unnecessary but it can't hurt so long as the gun is adequately lubricated. If oil is coming off the back of the rails...even onto your arm a little: then you've got enough oil.

A quick word of advice. When you are taking off the barrel bushing point it away from your face. lol I'm just lucky the plunger hit my forehead instead of my eye.

              thanks!
If you are new to handguns I suggest throughly reading the manual. Yes its mostly common sense but you're dealing with a firearm. You dont want any surprises or range incidents. Practice the safeties and controls before you load any ammo. For starting off I'd shoot decent quality FMJ brass ammo. Dont go to using cheaper aluminum blazers till you are confident you know how to handle a FTF or FTE.

At an indoor range a guy two booths down had some sort of problem. IDK what but he discharged a round that clipped the corner of a lane and impacted on the ceiling right in front of me. Muzzle discipline. Also I would field strip the thing and make sure it is properly lubricated. should be a light-thin coat.

OP; im in the same boat, I just shot my Loaded last weekend, Loved it. I used winchester ball ammo from WM, and tried out some different Hornady rounds. Took it home removed slide, barrel and guide rod and wiped them down. and put it back in the safe, im comming from shooting sigs for the last 10 years, this is my first 1911. Also, I bought some chip mc cormick mags and a boat load of OEM mags from springfield for range duty, everything performed as it should.
                  Did I miss anything?
