    XD45 Question

I just got my brand new xd45 this week and have been toying around with it. I was advised to load my mags to combat the stiffness of them being new so I did. My question is, when I place the mag in with 10 rnds it is extremely and I mean extremely hard to release the mag. The mag release is super stiff. I oiled it and tried working it out a lot but with a fully loaded mag it is really hard. I had a friend look at it and he noticed that if you remove one round (either chamber it or just take one out) the mag drops like a dream. I also noticed that with 10 rnds in, if I push up on the mag and hit the mag release it will drop no problem.

Ive never had a brand new gun so im not really familiar with break in periods if there is such a thing. Could this be something that gets worked out after a few range trips? Thoughts would be much appreciated.

This is very usual with XD's! with use over time it usually isn't as stiff as like when it was new!

Thats kinda what i figured. Is there a break in period where everything has to smooth out? Ive shot xd40's all day and loved them. Im still very stuck on XD's but just curious with it being brand new.

Yes, there is a break in period with XD mags. Lots of discussions about this issue on XD Talk, (if you're interested). It will work out though, with just a little time.

just a thought, but if said firearm is hanging out on your hip fully loaded, maybe the mag being a PITA to remove is a nice touch.

          just my first thought.
The Range is a place where you carry a gun around and spend most of your time shooting it.
The Real World is a place where you carry a gun around and spend most of your time not shooting it.

Yes the fully loaded mags are tight. Very tight.

When I got mine ad started shooting USPSA I failed to fully seat a mag, 3 times in one stage. Trying to reload on a closed slide. It's a good thing though. I've had over 1k rounds theough each mag, and two of them when done with USPSA come home and are put on HD duty. Loaded 24/7/365. And they are still tight.

Its the XD45 tactical or just plain jane .45? I'm picking up a Glock 21 SF first but I absolutely love the look and feel and shooting characteristics of the XD's. Good choice and hope the mag problem resolves it self. Sometimes the guns are stiff on break in. Weather it be loading them or pushing them in the mag well. If its still stiff after a couple hundred rounds I'd be a bit confused haha.

Totally normal. Experienced that with both my XD-45 as well as my XDM-40. It will loosen up some over time.

If you are trying to drop a full magazine either shift your grip to get more leverage or as you are pushing the mag release, push/slap/pop the bottom of the mag with your support hand. I haven't experienced that problem on "normal" mag releases - they're empty at that point.

As others have pointed out, full mags are a bit tough. I was at the range and a fellow saw me using an uplula to load up my magazine on an XD. He told me his wife could only manage nine rounds in a 10 round magazine. I told him I had the same issue until I got the Uplula.

It will loosen up a little but will still be a bit stiff down the road.

Exact same thing on my XD9.

After three years my original magazines are still tighter than my brand new 8 round sig magazines.

like everyone else said, its an XD thang

I concur. My XD45 is the same way.
