m&p 40?

I'm thinking of getting the m&p 40 fullsize. I seen on the roster that theres 2 models which are

M&P 40 (Mag Safety) / Stainless Steel, Polymer Pistol 4.25"
M&P 40 (Mag. Safety, Internal Lock) / Stainless Steel, Polymer Pistol 4.25"

does this mean that I can get it with either the internal lock or without? Is this the only difference between both of these? Or am I missing something here that I dont understand between the 2?

Yes you can get either with or without the internal lock and most people would opt for the no internal lock. Too bad the no mag safety disconnect did not make it on the list. There was a time when the list did not specify which model and some Californians bought the no mag safety disconnect, CA DOJ got wise and revised the list.

There is a simple way to modify the M&P to take out the mag disconnect (MD). You could also just buy a new sear housing (brownells) with MD and internal lock (IL), MD and no IL and no MD and no IL.

I just did this with my M&P9 except I didn't replace the spring like the above web site suggested. In place of the mag safety finger thingy, I just took a scrap of 1/16" thick Al laying in the trash can at work and made a spacer to take up the slack. I had to drill one hole and cut out a small piece from the Al scrap, then I was able to keep the original spring. Very easy and cheap.
