    Rust Issues

I live in a studio apartment and am having rust issues with my XD slide. I check it every day so it doesn't get bad but it is actively rusting. Never more than a simple wipe with a cloth will take off. I's suck a small apartment my windows will start fogging simply if my girlfriend and I are in it together. When I take a shower the moisture is 15x.

This is annoying and wondering if any of you had any tips on how to stop this from happening.

Order a Bore-Store from Brownells or Midwayusa. They start at about $5.

I would say get some sort of air tight box like a ammo can and keep desiccant packs in their with it.

Is your xd an older model? the older finishes are more prone to rust than the new melonite. Call springfield they may or may not help you out, but it's worth a shot. XD's come with a lifetime warranty.

I use the product called 'Eezox' for rust prevention on all my guns, and I swear by it.

It is very easy to use; just spray, wait, and wipe. Good company, good service, and good product.

Also checkout the testimonials webpage in its website, some interesting custom stories about using Eezox.

                  Regards,

                    Been there.
You figured out you have a problem with too much humidity or moisture. Now figure out a way to vent this off - such as open a window.

The other suggestion, which seems like a good one is to keep pistol in a sealed container WITH the moisture aborbs stuff - I have good luck with these: http://www.jpscorner.com/images/Desiccant_450gm_S.jpg

Lastly, use a good oil, such as CLP and keep the steel wet.
The only thing that is worse than an idiot, is someone who argues with one.

+1... it's a known issue with early model XD's and SA is aware of this problem. I bought a XD40 tactical 2nd hand (on calguns) and it started to rust on the slide as well. i called up SA and they told me to send it in, no questions asked. i did and they refinished my slide. now no more rust issues.
                      definitely worth a shot...

Side note, I would buy a house or condo. Renting a studio apartment sucks.

It started to rust a little so I threw a little break away and it hasn't rusted since.
