    Ruger P95 FTE

I have been having problems with this p95 since I bought it and am in need of help. I have been having quite a bit of FTE and am not quite sure what to do.
Initially, I thought it just needed to be broken in a bit more, but now I have put over 1000 rounds through it I know that is not the case. I next tried switching the ammo, but at this point I have tried about 6 or 7 different brands of quality ammo and noticed no difference. I have had several of my friends shoot it (to make sure I was not just limp wristing it) and they have had the same problem. It is firing fine, but every couple mags there will be a spent casing that gets caught onthe way out. I know its probably a extractor/ejector issue (don't know which) but I am wondering if it could possibly be a cheap quick fix I can get done from a local smith or should I bite the bullet and send it back to Ruger and have to wait?

If I do take it to a gunsmith - about how much would it cost? How long would it take? Any recommendations on one in South Bay/Long beach area?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have 2 different magazines (both OEM) and seem to have the problem with both.

Try taking your slide off of the frame and take the barrel out of the slide. Try sliding an empty shell under the claw of the extractor to see how it holds the shell. On my p95 which runs good the extractor will hold the shell even if I shake the slide pretty good.
I also have a p97 45acp and it was having extraction issues. I fixed it by adding some tension to the extractor which is pretty easy to do. To get the extractor out take your slide and push the extractor claw outward while sliding the extractor forward. It will come right out. When you have the extractor out you will see it has a "knee" bend. If you bend that a little more and reinsert the extractor it will have more tension. If that doesn't work contact ruger about a new extractor. If you are local to redlands maybe I can help you out. Mark

eveything i can think of has already been stated
          break-in period
          ammo
          magazine
          limp wristing
          extractor

The only other thing i can ask is it it stove piping, is your slide riding smoothly? but other then that do what railroader said and try and tinker with the extractor.

I tweaked the extractor a bit more to give it more tension, then I slid an empty shell behind it to see how it looked. It held pretty well and even stayed if I shook it as long as I didn't shake it real hard. I was hoping this would work but just got back from the range again and I still had a lot of FTE and a few FTF. Maybe tweak it more?

No stove piping, and the slide is as smooth as ever.

I'm starting to get bummed out about this. I really was hoping I wouldn't have to send it back to ruger. Any other suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated. I'll take all the help I can get.

This issue has been discussed more than once on the Ruger Forum.
Try this link and you may find some good information. Some P95 a short time ago suffered from improper metal tempering on their extractors that required some tweaking to fix.
Greetings everyone, I'm having some jamming issues with my P95 that I purchased NIB about a year ago. It ran relatively burp free for about 200 rounds but now I'm getting some pretty consistent FTF and FTE issues. When it first occurred I had chalked it up to not cleaning it since I last shot...

Contact Ruger and tell them about your problems. If they think it's a bad extractor they'll probably mail you a new one for free.

You know I'm not sure what to tell you. You don't want to make the extractor too tight or that will cause feeding problems too. Mark

i had the SAME problem 2 weeks ago when i bought the gun and brought it home. it jammed after the first shot and continued to jam every clip or 2. i took it home, took it apart and cleaned it very thoroughly and have not had a problem since. it works beautifully. i called ruger about my problem and they suggest a high grain bullet for this gun and to clean it thoroughly after every use. I have used high grain bullets and cleaned it thoroughly and it works perfect, i love it. I am not shooting any type of bullets through it with no problems. Ruger told me this gun has a break in period of 250 - 300 rounds. They also said if i had problems with the gun that they would gladly fix it and the turn around time is 2-4 weeks, not too bad in my opinion. Good luck

OK, looks like I'm calling Ruger today. I just wanted to make sure there was nothing else I could do before I send it in. Thanks for the help guys!

Good for you trying to find any other reason for why your 95 isn't working properly before you send it back to Ruger. You had more patients than most others would.
I remember my 95 being very tight when new. Never had the problems you did except a few fail-to-lock-open-on-last-round with Remington UMC. Now its perfect with any ammo.
I'm sure Ruger will take care of you. Let us know how it goes. Good luck.

                          My gun is back!

Well I finally got my p95 back from Ruger and got a chance to test it out. It took Ruger about 2 weeks from when I shipped it out to when I received it back in the mail. Ruger's customer service was a class act. I called and explained my situation, and they sent me a ups label through email to ship on their dime. When I received it back they sent a order form stating they replaced my ejector and repaired my extractor. When I sent my gun into them, I used my factory plastic case that came with the gun to ship. I guess they noticed it was a little messed up and replaced it along with the paperwork as well. Nice!
So anyways I took it out today and fired 100 rounds of Winchester White with not one problem! I also fired a couple mags of Federal Champion through it before I left also with no issues! Very pleased.
