    cleaning ammo

I had a bag of ammo..

Its just been sitting for years..so they're kind of dirty.

Is it okay to use a little clp and wipe them down??

I'd just shoot it unless you want to store it longer? I haven't had any problems with shooting old/dirty ammo as long as it isn't rusted.

I read a test where ammo was soaked in WD-40 for a period of time to see if it would damage the primer, even overnight. All rounds fired with no problems. So, just cleaning them will most likely be fine.

I would use a can of compressed air to blow away excess dust and lint. Other than that, I wouldn't bother.

If you happen to reload, just throw it all in the tumbler with some corn cob media + a squirt of your favorite polish (to make feeding flawless) and tumble for an hour or two.

After reading all the warnings of not putting loaded or primed cases into the tumbler, are you sure this is a good idea?

I've heard from many guys that reload and this poses little to no great. Even larger manufacturers do it. Heck, most bulk ammo comes loose in a 50cal can or the like...

Most commercial ammo is tumbled after loading.

Totally safe. People who say it isn't have never done it & go by what they "hear," which is a bunch of crap.

Your handgun manual also says not to shoot reloaded/remanufactured ammo. I guess everyone follows that one as well ..

I've tumbled live ammo before and everyone I know who reloads in mass volume also does this. There's also all the ammo that gets shipped in the back of a UPS truck, for days, if not weeks, at a time.. Really, a little tumbling isn't going to hurt anything..

Why would you want to clean your ammo? Just shoot it!

I've got a whole ammo can full of old gunky .38 I need to clean off so it'll easily chamber in the revolvers. Thanks for asking the question and reminding me of this.

They were old and gunky..I didn't want my mag to get extremely filthy

I put a small amount of clp on a t shirt and wiped them down...the shirt came out BLACK.

I do have a problem with one of my mags..I can only load 9 hollows in it even with help from the mag loader.

The other mag holds 10 easy.

Also with the mag that held 9..when I racked one in the chamber...it didn't rack...it would stop
