Legalities of an M26c Taser in CA?

Any good sites/pages or FAQ's about taser legalities in CA?

Does it have to be open carried? Considered a concealed weapon without a CCW?

Called the San Diego non-emergency CHP number and an officer told me that there are no laws that would prevent concealed carry of a taser in CA & no 1,000 foot radius around school zones like there is with firearms. He did say that carrying onto school grounds would likely not be legal.

      Taser

I have always loved that the Taser cartriges are serial nummbered, and registered. When you discharge one, a million tiny slips of paper fall out with the serial number. You can also get a minature video camera to snap to the bottom. So, if you need to defend yourself, you can record the whole event.

So - an effective weapon that criminals will be caught if they use it imporoperly, and they can't lie about the circumstances that got them zapped.

Talked to a SD Sheriff & he agreed with everything the CHP officer had said.

He said to check PC 12020 to make sure there isn't anything that would classify it as a weapon that way I would be 100% clear on concealed carry...

Looks like the word taser isn't anywhere in the text.

Looks like tasers are covered in this section...

So far all I have found is this restriction,

Cannot possess taser in state or local public building or public open meeting (171b (a) (5)) or in sterile area of airport (171.5)

I was at Iron Sights in Oceanside a few weeks back and I saw a gun like taser in their display case. I didn't look to hard at it, so price, make, model, etc... are beyond me. However, if they stock that type of product they should know the legalities behind it.

Are we (citizens) not allowed to buy X26's? Just wondering because I don't know why you'd want an M26 if you could get an X26. They are a much better weapon.

Yes, anyone who is not a felon can purchase the X26C. The only thing is, they run about $1,000 dollars.

                        X26 is 1000$ & the M26 is 500$

Also, the M26 looks more like a gun, which could possibly be more of a deterrent factor when concealed under a shirt/jacket on a belt holster?

If you're going to spend that kind of money on a weapon to protect yourself, why buy the weapon that is outdated and inferior in almost every way imaginable?

                            What ways would that be?

Something to consider.......I have carried a taser for many years. I have been tased and I have tasered more than a few people. The Taser is an awesome piece of engineering and is a great tool for Law Enforcement/Security Professionals/Military who have other means of force readily available to them. I have seen the Taser work unbelievabley well and I have seen the Taser be completely innefective.

Having said that, I WOULD NOT carry a Taser as a sole means of self defense. There are too many variables, in which a Taser can be innefective, to rely upon without having multiple use of force options and backup readily at hand. Some of them are distance to suspect, clothing worn by suspect, movement, mindset of suspect, number of suspects etc.......In most cases you would be better off running and gettting the hell out of harms way before trying to engage somebody with a taser.
