    another transfer question

    Searched the faqs, but couldn't quite find what I was looking for.
    Not to mention I'm purely a rifle guy, and have never dealt with HG transfers etc etc

    So here it is

    My friends father wants to give her a handgun as a gift. Father purchased said gun in nevada.
    What's the skinny? No paper transfer legit? Ffl?
    Does she need a handgun endorsement as well?

    Sorry as I'm sure this has been covered a zillion times

    You should be able to do an intra-familial transfer ($19and a mail in form) but I do believe that you are supposed to have a hsc in california for the transfer of a handgun. This should be attainable from any handgun dealing ffl. Double check on the hsc requirement.

      Yes - HSC (handgun safety certificate) is required but a question: where is 'dad'? Of what state is he a resident?

        ++what librarian said,.
        additionally;
        if hes in NV, it must go through FFL, and still do an intra-family transfer, but it must go through ffl.

        both parties, Inside CA, face to face, and send in the form. no ffl required.

        I'm assuming purchase in nevada means he lives in nevada.
        correct me if im wrong, but you cant purchase out of state can you?

              Tripper and PlacerTactical got it - Dad in NV to daughter in CA is an interstate transfer, so must go through CA FFL; pistol can be off-Roster if Dad sends it as a gift, but otherwise all FFL-things apply - 10-day wait, safety demo, interstate transfer fee, DROS fee.

              Dad can bring the handgun to CA and both he and daughter can go to FFL; Dad can send directly to FFL if chosen FFL will accept it from individuals; Dad can hire NV FFL to send handgun to CA FFL. Call around to get the transfer fees and policies of the FFL.

                Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate it.

                Her local gun shop and cop friend insisted she didn't have to do anything, but that just didn't sound right to me, hence my post.
