Colt Python worth $1100? Blued/4 inch.

Local shop has one. Based on 4 digit serial number, it's circa 1957. Perfect mechanicals, excellent bore. Original grips. 95% condition or better. Would be 100% with exception of slight wear in the bluing on sides of muzzle...doesn't look like holster wear. Just slight thinning from putting down on the muzzle sides first. No box, etc. So...too much for one of these? Thanks for any input. c good

Hmmmm, that gun at that price... I would ask if it was the original finish or ever had major parts replaced. Sounds like a keeper if all original and in good shape.

try dry firing 6 times in double action mode and see if there's something wrong.

if nothing is wrong, i'll get it. the price is good.

I guess if a Python is needed in the stable, $1100 isn't too bad.

Wear is holster wear, not from putting it down. Who cares though? The stocks alone, if original, are worth $200.00 or so if perfect. Check it out following the sticky posted, and if it checks out, buy it now. Nothing better than shooting a snake, period.

1957...its entitled to some wear....but its also pretty rare which is why the prices on GB are going higher. Guys on the Colt Forum are all over these things - don't tell them j/k

it depends, how long is the barrel?

if its a 2.5" or 3" original barrel, with correct timing, than its a steal. go and buy it right away.

for standard 4"-6", its a good price. specially if it have original grips. one thing you have to check becuase colt have a few grips iterations. make sure its the right iterations for the year.

I've found the 4" models to be harder to find in really good condition than the 6" models. The 4" models were often carry firearms so some took a beating. Plus I see about 6 of the 6" versions for every 4" version I find for sale.

I believe that Pythons were first produced in 1955.
