Will a Detonics Combat Master accept normal 1911 mags? I realize they would protrude below the grip, but otherwise do they fit up the magwell and engage?

I believe they use 1911 Officer's Model type mags...

Combat Master magazines are even shorter than Officer magazines. And, to answer your question, the Combat Master can use any 1911 magazine, but will obviously protrude beyond the magazine well.

Original Detonics mags are quite pricey - about $100.00 each - but you can get excellent flush fitting replacement mags by Metalform from Brownells. They even have the "full mag" indicator follower.
