    Need Gunsmith for CZ

Anyone know of a good gunsmith who specializes in CZ pistols located in the northern Orange County/ eastern LA county or western Riverside/San Bernardino areas?

Here's my basic problem: My CZ-75b, which was my first handgun I purchased, had to be rebarrelled about a year and a half ago. The original barrel had a bulge in it probably caused by a squib load.

Anyway, I went ahead and ordered a replacement barrel from CZ, and dutifully took it to a gunsmith for fitting. I will not mention the gunsmith by name because the store he works out of I frequent and generally like, but my feeling is that he basically mucked it up.

The gun never functioned properly after the rebarrelling, and when I took it to another gunsmith (this one being much more prompt, available, and willing to answery questions), he showed me where the first gunsmith had taken too much off the barrel linkage (that part where the pin slides through). What had been a rock solid reliable (and wonderfully accurate) pistol is now a "jam without fail" pistol and such a headache that it's essentially a gun-shaped paperweight.

Why not send the pistol back to CZ-USA for repair?

You can also try Angus Hobdell at http://czcustom.com/

Other than CZ, Angus is a popular gunsmith for the CZ brand. Angus is also associated with CZ. I'm guessing that he is still with the CZ shooting team. It appears that he handles the warranty repairs for the SP01 Shadow & custom pistols for CZ.

Angus has his own sub-forum at http://www.czforumsite.info/

Another option would be Randy Lee of Apex Tactical in Los Osos CA www.ApexTactical.com

This was my initial thought, and I might just do that eventually. At first, I wanted to send it back as a warranty repair, but it was well past the 5 year warranty at that point, and I thought it was going to be a simpler and quicker route to use a local gunsmith.

Just curious - when you send a gun out for repair, what are the legal protocols you have to follow? Do you have to disassemble it? How about when they ship it back to you? Does it have to be shipped back to an FFL? Or can they ship it to your door?

Send it to Angus, you'll be glad you did. Not sure if Matt Mink is doing CZ work any longer, but he'd be another.

Ship it unloaded via common carrier (e.g. UPS, Fedex) overnight to the FFL.

^thats what the folks at CZ-USA told me when I initially called about it. By the time I called about it, I had owned the gun for about 9 years.

So - just so I'm clear, I can send the gun to the gunsmith in it's fully-assembled state, just so long as it's unloaded?

And when they send it back to me, does it need to go through an FFL? And will said FFL then charge me to receive my own gun?

The gun can be sent directly to the gunsmith. He can can send it directly back to you. If your going to send it out send it to http://czcustom.com/. This guy is local and may be able to do the fitting for you. http://www.davesmetalworks.com/ Mark

                      FYI,

I recently sent my CZ to CZCustom in Arizona.
I used Fedex. They required a copy of CZCustom's FFL.
Contact CZCustom and they'll email a copy of their FFL to U.
Overnite Priority shipping was $60. Got $1000 insurance for another $10. Total was $70.
CZCustom charged me another $36 to ship my gun back to me Overnite.
ALL handguns gotta be overnite. Long guns different story.
You're looking at $100 just for shipping.

If I were You , I would send it to CZ USA. I had friends who did. They were VERY HAPPY!!!
