Theres no such thing as a Desert Eagle 500.

As to the Desert Eagle chambered in .50 Action Express, no it is not approved for sale in California. You may buy the DE in .44 and the barrel in .50AE, that is legal. The barrel will run you ~$350 +$50 for the .50AE magazine.

What would be the difference in the two guns after doing the conversion like you mentioned? To clarify, in all actuality would it be the same gun as the .50 A/E?

Can a California resident accept a transfer of a .50 A/E from a nevada resident if it is a family member?

They're the exact same framed gun but the .50AE is not approved for sale in CA. It is legal for you to buy the .44mag and convert it to .50AE with the barrel conversion, then you effectively have both, it's a quick and easy conversion (and .44mag ammo is cheaper anyway).

But yes, if you have a family member directly up or down the family tree (can't be a brother/cousin) they could FFL transfer the .50AE to you.

Yes it's the same gun, with a different magazine and barrel. However, since the State of CA only approves the .44 Magnum version, you will first have to buy that one if you are buying it from a dealer, or you can find someone with the .50AE and do a private party transfer since PPT's are exempt from the approved handgun roster.

Awesome info. Thanks for the quick responses. I think I'll get my dad to buy it in Nevada and then transfer it to me. Anybody know where I could get a good deal on a .50 Desert Eagle AE in satin nickel?

That's the first time I've heard this. Is it true?
I am not a lawyer, the above does not constitute legal advice.

Yes there is an infrequent gift exemption to the safe list.
                Please, calm down.

Actually, he says his family member (father) is in Nevada.

You can't legally do the transfer between relatives from other states. Doing this becomes a Federal transfer issue and not just a State of California issue.

That just means it has to be transferred through an FFL, but the FFL needs to mark the family exemption on the DROS.

Also (correct me if I am wrong), a DE .50 would be illegal in the city of Los Angeles, right?

Also, I *believe* it has been noted here that having a direct family member buy it for you with the original intent to transfer is against the law as well.
