    Sig 226 trigger sticking

I have a 226 navy that I purchased about 2 months ago, I have fired about 1100 rounds of factory new ammo. I am having problems with the trigger not resetting after a shot the trigger sticks back and I have to wiggle the trigger to get it to reset, It has happened around 15 times now in the last two trips to the range. I have oiled and cleaned the gun after each use, I know this may not be a mechanical failure but user error. Any one had a similar problem? Thanks in advance.

Have you taken the gun apart to see what might be the cause? Field strip then take the grips off. Work the hammer and trigger to see what might be the issue.

yeah, sounding like the trigger return spring is not working well. Located under right grip panel. Especially suspect if you have replacement grips on the pistol that is causing interference.

Technically - Sig states that armorers are the only ones qualfied to remove the grip panels.

But really - it sounds like there is a binding in the trigger return spring.

Pull the grip panels off CAREFULLY and take a photo and I'll take a look at it.

I had this problem once. I was able to simply tweak it back to normal and it was all good after that.

actually, it can be more to that problem than just trigger return spring.

the AFP lever could be the hang up where its caught by the trigger bar. this can happen if you have SRT AFP lever install. i have to do some minor sanding to smooth out the sliding surfaces to remove the hang up.

another possible hang up is that the back of the trigger bar usually rides under the hammer pivot pin. if somehow the the trigger bar travel too far forward, the back of the trigger bar will hit right on the hammer pivot pin which prevent it from resetting.

Bah! That means people need to send the pistol to an armorer to change out the grips.

Trigger bar spring! Why didn't I think of that? The trigger bar spring broke on my P6 2 years ago. However, that rendered the gun completely non-functional, unlike the OP's P226 Navy.

Now I have multiple spare trigger bar springs, both new and old styles, just in case.

                I forgot about that.

OP - take a photo and show us so we can troubleshoot it. The Hammer pivot pin might be the issue here.

That could be the problem. You mentioned that it happens more often after the 1st box of ammo. Heat could have built up and somethings could have expanded just enough to hinder the function of the trigger bar/spring/combo.

the after market grip could also be an issue becuase the new style springs need more rooms for both for and aft and lateral movements than the older spring. the grips you have could be made for older style springs.

try to duplicate the trigger hang up and take a picture with the grip panel off.

personally i suspect the aftermarket grip is the root cause.

The problem started around rounds 600-700 I'm try to get it to duplicate the problem but I can't get it to it only occurs under live fireand once every 50 or so rounds. I may have to wait untill I make it to the range and get a picture then. I have the grips off it has alot of resadue inside should I grab some Qtips and solvent and clean it out.

Might not help, but it couldn't hurt!

Thanks guys I will be at the range next week and will see if it happens again. I cleaned it and oils it hopefully that works, if not I'm thinking of having the action enhancement package and set done by Sig.
