    What was your first handgun?

What handgun did you first get? Either it be for home defense, range use or duty gun. I am looking to get my first handgun in August when I turn 21. And I know it comes down to personal preference but am looking for a gun to use for when I go do security. What handgun would you recommend? I was thinking about A Sig Sauer Mosquito due to the price but have seen a lot of negative reviews. But I am looking for a handgun to use on duty for security.

    Mine was a Sig P226.

As for your first firearm, I would not get a Sig Mosquito. Do some more research and testing at the range.

My first was an HK USP Compact .40.

Just my opinion, but if you plan to do some kind of armed security, I think you'll want something with a little more ballistic stopping power than a .22

I am not sure what your budget is, but any of the following are great first guns:

      - Beretta 92/96
      - HK USPC/P2000
      - Glock 17/19 or 22/23

I am partial to .40, but I threw some 9mm up there as well.

        Glock 19.

+1 A Mosquito is a poor choice for the use you have specified.

        Recommendations:

        Glock 17/19
        CZ-75 SP-01

Yea the Mosquito was a poor use of an example, sorry about that everyone. I am looking for a gun to use for duty purposes. Guns like Sig Sauer, Glock, M&P are some of my favorites even though I never handled a handgun. But I do like a gun with a thumb safety and hammer.

find a range you can rent and take advantage.

Mine was a Smith model 19 I believe. .357 magnum, and it was SUPER FUN!!
Go to the shooting range with a friend and rent what ever you think you'll like. See what works best, and go with that.

CZ75...thats what I would get for a gun with a thumb safety and a hammer.

I am open to guns that do not have thumb safeties and the hammer. I will call the local ranges and see about renting a gun to use.
