    SA Mil-Spec VS RI Tactical?

If you were interested in a 1911 in this price range which gun would you be more happy with? The Rock Island has more features and feels good, but it seems the SA has a better reputation.
    What's the general consensus?

Can't go wrong with either one. I own a RIA Tactical and I'm very happy with it.
An err on the side of caution, is still an err. - me

Depends if you want a GI type 1911 or a "tactical" looking 1911.

I hear people complain about RIA and thats its 'hit or miss' but its the same thing people do when they complain about WASRs. RIA is good to go imo, especially for its price point.

I would go with Springfield because of their life time warranty.

Their both great guns. Ones American, and ones Filipino. My 38 super converted to 9mm RIA shoots great but the fit and finish are a little poor. I have heard nothing but great things about SA, I personally do not own one.

I would probably go with the SA.

                    No, its American.

Just like a a Boeing 747 is " American " but with wings made in Japan, the mid fuselage made in Spain, wheels made in Taiwan, etc. then they are all put together at Everett in Washington-----at least that is what I've read in Time Magazine

how much would I have to spend to get a american made 1911? Is it worth it?

Edit: Oh so the SA has it's parts made elsewhere and is assembled here? That doesn't really count does it. hah

I was in the same boat as you, I went SA Mil-Spec. RIA is a great gun I just couldnt get past the finish.

either would be good...RIA is pretty solid for the price. just dont like the RIA logo on the slide, finish isnt the best either. i believe SA has some place down in brazil make the frames and ships them back to SA to put them together. quality i heard isnt as good. i made sure before i purchased my milspec online that the serial number was us made. serial number starts with NM. I thought i heard majority of "loaded" and up are made here. GI's and Mil-specs made made in BZ.
                          Im not the real Dux.

This is stupid, RIA has lifetime warranty and they stand behind their product 100%.If anyone besides the good ole USA it's definitely the Phillipines. 1911's are the right hand of the phillipines. I have shot a Springfield GI side by side with a RIA GI and IMO the rock island felt more solid, The finish was not as great but I kind of like it and for a fraction of the price... My RIA tactical has been very rock solid and I kind of like the rollmark on the side . I say it's up to you but one thing to think about is there are A LOT more positive reviews on RIA's than negative. People that usually diss a RIA are colt, kimber or les bair snobs. Theres is a difference between being cheaply made and being cheap, Of course there are always going to be a few lemons but they stand being their product 100% and will make it right. RIA is not new to the game Armscor has been making 1911's for quite some time. The fit on my tactical is great not loose by any means but not so tight it impedes function and reliability.

Just letting you know the finish really is poor on the ria. but durabake can fix all lol

Today my dad and I were messing with my ria after cleaning it. His wedding band scratched the **** out of the side of the slide. . About an inch long scratch on the top left side of the slide.
I absolutely love the gun. It has made a GREAT 9mm 1911 but its little things like that that are annoying.
