    AAR- SCT Basic Pistol Class

I had the good fortune to be able to attend my first tactical pistol class, and I'm happy to say that going with the guys at SCT was a stroke of genius on my part, well not exactly, just checking out the threads and reading what others were saying gave me the confidence to go ahead and send my money and reserve my spot in the Basic pistol class offered by Stone Cobra Tactical.

So the credit goes to the Cal Gun community not my brilliance for picking SCT.

The 1 1/2 hour drive gave me plenty of time to go through all the scenarios in my head on what to expect, 'gruff mean ex cops and black-ops guys waiting to laugh at my poor shooting habits" or "Big ex Marines who stare you down and make you wonder why your there" or worse a bunch of guys who didn't know what they were doing" to say I had my reservations is an understatement.

Well happy to say nothing could be further from the truth, when I arrived I was greeted by Gordon Gray; Gordon is the training Coordinator for SCT, he made me feel welcome right off the bat.
once everyone arrived we meet our Lead Instructor Pat Dewsey, after a short safety discussion and a Q&A session it was off to the the firing line for some basic draw from holster instruction I'm sure some would find this old hat but I think everyone learned something . I know I did, but most of all they made it light and fun while at the same time driving home the importance of what they were instructing us to do the "how and why" was always there.

After some dry fire drills and a quick lunch break it was time for the good stuff. we went live, Pat and Gordon took us through our paces, challenged us and corrected us when needed, I never felt intimidated at any time I always felt comfortable, we started class shooting 8 inch circle targets, and feeling lucky to be getting all the shots on target and by the end of class were were dropping multiple shots onto spots no bigger then a quarter.

Now I have a long way to go, lots of practice ahead of me. But Thanks to
Pat Dewsey,Gordon Gray and the training provided by SCT I have a better understanding of my firearm and of my abilities in the use of arms.

I had a great day, meet some great people and got to shoot my gun. Was it worth it? Every penny. Can't wait to do it again.

I also found, they have a very reasonable cost for thier classes. even got a very cool hat and Certificate of completion when class was done.

I also had a great time and learned a great deal. (Including just how much damage can be done by years of 'practicing' the wrong moves...)

Pat and Gordon were both great coaches, thorough, watchful, inspiring. They encouraged questions and feedback and were very focused on trying to give everyone the best possible experience.

My accuracy improved a great deal over the course of the day, and I am now addicted to this kind of shooting--I can't wait to take another class with these guys. I have a lot of practicing to do in the meantime.

Good stuff. I brought 4 new shooters with me to this class and ended up taking both days with them. Pat and Gordon are spot on in regards to how they teach students their fundamentals.

I was shooting next to a 15 yo student who's parents had bought her a day of training for her birthday. At the end of the day, we shot for distance and she ended up in the top three.

The most important part of SCTs training is how the build the blocks. Each section of instruction leads to a new skill and your constantly working through all the skill sets that are taught to you throughout the day. At the end of the day you get to put all your skills together.

Pat presented us with so many different targets and drills that I've got alot more things to put in my tool bag!

That young Lady was transformed, her gun skills improved ten fold. That was fun to see.
