So let me get this right, putting new grips on a 686 plus and NOT fluting the cylinder, they're gonna charge me more money?

I'd rather be buying the standard 686 3in and ordering one of Kelly's arms grips(in whatever choice I want) and have something cheaper and just the same don't ya think? Not if they're offering me performance center options ( tweaked trigger/ Moon clip cuts/ sights, ect) then that'll be worth the extra money.

The grips are interesting, but what I'm wondering is how I'd change the battery in the "Red Lamp" front sight.

I dunno - the 3" 686's do usually command a small premium - as they have the full-length ejector rod, and some of us really like unfluted cylinders.

They probably won't sell too well -- S&W had a run of 5" unfluted 686s a few years ago and they eventually were available at Budsgunshop for just over $500 shipped. I shoulda bought one then but didn't.

As far as the OP's complaint: Business 101 failure. Limited specialty runs cost more to do - create separate marketing materials, SKUs, etc. They try to recover that cost thru higher prices selling to collector types.

Wasn't going to but had my eye on the standard 686plus 3in and buying the aftermarket grips, also thinking about getting the cylinder cut for moon clips and probably magnaport the barrel too.
