oddball xd question

Just got my first xd, a five inch od green tactical, awesome piece.

But here's my question, I was just looking at the items included in the case and noticed that the holster and mag carrier both have picatinny rails on the side! What the heck??? What would someone use these for? Does anyone use them and if so, what for? Seems kinda odd but I guess its not a bad idea if you wanted to carry your weapon mountable light or laser off the gun.

That was my first reaction too. I've got an OD green service model in .40 S&W.

I thought it was also pretty stupid looking, the thumb loader tool attaches to it.

You threw it away?? Damn, I know that stuff is not high quality and valuable but it is good to use when your out on the range or shooting in the desert. If that stuff gets dirty or scratch, who cares, it least it is not your valuable holster.

The xdm case has those rails as well, I didn't get the point of it but I guess temp storage it is.

You'll never know when you need to mount a Bayonet...just sayin

It allows for you to mount the mag loader onto it when not in use and you don't have to put it in your pocket. At least that's what I was told.

Paddle flashlight mount, pepperspray mount, storage compartment, additional mag carriers, paddle lighter/cigarette Carrier, holster mounted cleaning kit, cell phone carrier, tactical key ring. Why the frick would you want to carry the girly mag loader. I think springfield has an opportunity to make some more worth while addons.
