Just picked up Sig Mosquito! (Updated: Added Picture)

A few weeks ago the wife went to the range with me and was having a difficult time with the 357 and 9mm and wanted something easier on the hand to practice with. She thought about it and decided we need a 22 pistol. Anyway, fast forward a few days: Just as I was getting ready to go somewhere, she asked me to take her to the gun store! (Oh heck yeah!, TWIST my arm! That is like my candy store!) She played around with a few pistols (Walther, Buckmark, Ruger MKII and MKIII and the Sig Mosquito)

She messed around with the Mosquito and really like the way it felt in her hand. Within 30 minutes she gave the nod and we decided to make the purchase. Picked up the little thing last night, got a couple of extra mags from CTD and we are ready to give it a shot (No pun intended)

She picked out the two tone version and it looks bueatiful. Unfortunately she is running a marathon on Sunday is left me alone with the kids so no range trip until next weekend; how will I ever survive!

Hopefully you've got some CCI mini mags for that thing, and a lot of patience. Maybe you might be lucky and your Mosquito won't be a jammomatic.

I, too have heard from my boss that's his mosquito is partial to cci mini mags.

If he's lucky, he'll only need to use Mini mags for the first 1000 rounds or so to break the gun in. If that doesn't do it, he'll need to polish the feed ramp, remove the sharp lip, and do all sorts of other annoying work to it to get it to work with bulk ammo.

I too had a Mosquito. Mine performed best with the 36gr CCI Mini Mag HP from Walmart which was $6.67 per 100rd I believe. You'll notice during the "break in" period the pistol will experience most issues with any ammo you use. It seems to go away after 1k rounds or so. Maybe try keeping the slide open to decompress the spring a little before shooting.

Nah, springs don't wear in that way. Only compression/expansion wears springs in. Leaving it compressed does nothing. The same goes for everyone telling people to just load up their mags and leave them that way to make them easier to load.

He could, however... Rack the slide a billion times to loosen up the spring if necessary

I have a mosquito two tone and it is very fun. The thing i like about it is that it feels and looks like "a real gun" where as most .22 are very toy like. The bad thing is that it only likes the cci mini mag and the trigger on it is far from stellar especially in DA.

It was my first gun. Used only CCI Minimags for the first 1K rounds then to Walmart Federals value box.

I shot around 4,000 rounds in 2 months.

It sometimes jammed but being new to guns I saw that as an opportunity tolearn to clear jams.

I love the Sig Mosquito so much that it will alsobe my sons first gun.

As someone stated... I picked the sig mosquito cause it looked and felt real.

I have a mosquito and love it to death. I've found that Blazer in the 500rd bricks work great if you don't want to pay a few extra dollars for CCI Mini Mag. I haven't done any smithing on it but it doesn't like winchester and remington cyclone which is perfectly fine with me cause i just love the blazer rounds. just keep her clean and enjoy. I specifically use this gun to train with sig p226 and i can't believe how much i've improved!!!!!

                      ENJOY!!!

Cross your finger that you get a good one. It's been a 30/70, 30 being good the other bad.

I bought a mosquito because I like the look and I wanted a cheap shooter, for 3 cents a round it didn't hurt much... After all my 40sw reload is only about .04-.05 per load. When I tool it out and shot it, I had to use .08 cents per round... For a 22lr!!!! I woul d have twice the shot with my 40sw....

It jam like crazy for me even after 800 rounds of brake in and after a good clean/cycle before going to. I tried everything and it jam 4-6 rounds per mag. With CCI mini mags I still got 3-4 jams per mag. I sold it quickly afterwards.

Anyways, hope it's a good one. Mines was accurate, just didn't function right.

Question- If these Mosquitoes arent so reliable, is SIG standing behind their product with repair and/or support?

My daughter has a Sig Mosquito and it's been very good. It's 100% on mini-mags, and not so good cheap bulk ammo. She really enjoy shooting it and I've enjoyed it also.

I just did some work on the trigger and it made the single action much better with a decent improvement to the double action pull. Stock, the DA trigger was so bad my daughter couldn't really use it, I'm hoping it will be good enough now to make it practical for her to use.

All in all it's a fun little gun.
