    Colt McCormick Commander

I've been organizing the safes, dug this out of the back of one of them, if I remember right it's one of 500.

That is a beaute! I just sold my commander to a good friend that wanted to get into shooting. I lent him 10 handguns and the Colt never made it back home. So far thay is the only reason I would ever sell a Colt.

I have never seen the model you posted do you have any history on it?

These were produced by the Colt Custom shop in 1995, Chrome plated and McCormick parts added. In the same year they also made some Officer's version.

            Beavertail question...

I like the gun but the fit of the beavertail looks strange. There is a large gap between the frame and the beavertail. A good gunsmith and a new part could easily change that.

That's a stock Colt ducktail just like what they put on the Defender today.

Based on my conversation with ///D yesterday it sounds like he is going to be getting to that point pretty quick! Can't wait to see what else you "find" during your reorganization. Take care.

Fit of grip safety to frame

If that is a stock Colt ducktail it has a lot of room for improvement. There is no need for a gap like that between frame and safety. Here is a photo of a Colt with a well fitted grip safety:
