Wife likes a Taurus....

So we're in the LGS yesterday & the wife falls in love with a cute little stainless Taurus .38 5 shooter.

Nothing against the Bull... I own one & like it. But... really. Gotta figure out how to talk her into a used S&W or Ruger. We're going to the range today & I'll see what they have in .38 snubbies for rent.

Ah well... if it turns out she likes the Taurus best... it DID seem like a solid little gun. Locked up really tight, not bad trigger.

Just by coincidence that very morning I had finished tumbling a big batch of .38 brass. Incidental bycatch of my .357 scrounging. Guess I know what I'll be doing with it now.

One thing I learned from 20 years of marriage, if its what she wants, just get it. Dont try to do something else just because its what you want.

If it's the Taurus 85 it's not such a bad thing. A friend of mine has one with thousands of rounds through it and no malfunctions. It's pretty accurate for a snub too. The size makes it ideal for smaller hands and despite being fairly light the recoil certainly isn't anything to be upset about.
If you really don't want her to have the Taurus, see if she can shoot an SP101. The ergonomics are pretty similar and comfortable in smaller hands. I have smaller hands and some of the larger framed revolvers really give me trouble, but the 85 and SP101 both fit me nicely. I also like the extra heft of the SP101 and its ability to accommodate .357mag if need be.

I bought my wife the SS 85 last year, put hogue grips on it, and she loves it. It shoots great, no problems yet, and she says it's a keeper. I looked around at different brands/pricing, and for the money, you really can't go wrong. I had a Taurus auto years ago, different story, did'nt last too long in my safe. The only other snub revolver I would've considered for the money was the Ruger SP101. Heavier, a little more costly, but great reputation.

Taurus quality has really improved over the years. I have 3 Taurus revolvers (589 and 2 Trackers 627), and they all work great, not to mention being very accurate, especially the Trackers. And when it comes to factory trigger, I'd choose a newer Taurus revolver over a Ruger anyday.

Besides, she likes "that one", which kinda makes this discussion moot to begin with

I learned that in my first year of marriage. Even if you get her something comparable, or better, or something she shoots better, she will ALWAYS be upset she didn't get the one she wanted.

Got my wife one for Xmas last year. I got her the turquoise one so it doesn't make it's way into my collection...I have a habit of buying family members guns for xmas, and storing them in my safe.

Congrats on having a "keeper" Very nice she's interested in handgun shooting.

I don't know about you, but as I've gotten (much) older I choose my fights a lot more carefully nowdays. Women like what they like and thats ok with me.

Mine is the model 85 with Hogue grips.
I dont care for the lightweight models as they tend to transfer recoil more.
