I picked up my first K frame the other day - a 1981 S&W M65-2 P&R, square butt, magna grips, 4" standard heavy barrel with fixed sights - and got a chance to hit the range with it. It's a shooter, not a collector, with a bit of wear on the grips and cylinder, but has a pretty tight lockup and a nice trigger.
It weighs in at 37 oz loaded, or about 2 oz heavier than my old Security Six. Recoil was light with .38 special, and not bad with .357 magnum. The DA trigger pull is good, and the SA trigger is light and crisp. The magna grips aren't ideal for range shooting, especially with heavier loads, and I'm thinking I'll put Hogues on this one, since it's not a show gun.
The light trigger and heavy barrel made for easy control and good groups. Here's a good 10 yard 2" group (ignoring the flyer), using 21 AE .38 spl 130 gr FMJ.
I like all kinds of revolvers, but I have to say it's hard to beat the older S&Ws for looks and shootability.
