Colt New Agent .45 ACP

Talk to me about the Colt New Agent in .45. I really like the looks of this gun for CCW and am wondering what it takes to master the trench sights. Might I assume Colt reliability? Give me the good, the bad, and the ugly. Well, how can there be any ugly on something that looks so sweet:

i remember back in the 80's, there was a manufacturer, (maybe novak), that customized s&w compact 9mm's, that had a "gutter sight", i think that was what it was called. basically the same idea. however, with the natural pointability, of the 1911, and for what this firearm was obviously designed for, i am going to look into one. thanks for the heads-up

Google Colt New Agent. There is a ton of reviews on this little gun, most very positive.

I have had mine for about two weeks now. Ran ball, and several brands of HP without a single failure.

SO...give me a layman's synopsis of what its like to shoot. Did you find it difficult to adjust to the sights?

It doesn't have sights. A battle gun does not need sights.

It is actually a pretty good transition to the trench sight for me. Being used to shooting shotguns I'm used to sighting down the top of a barrel. Bare in mind that the intention of handling this pistol is to point shoot.

With the trench sight your view will be the "U" shape cut in the slide. Be certain to not only look at the front part of the groove as you will tend to shoot high. Practice will be needed to try to pick up the whole groove or trench, rear to front.

I've only been able to shoot about 270 rounds of 230 gr. (100 WWB ball, 50 Win SXT T series, 50 Fed Hydrashok, and 20 Speer Gold Dot) and was mainly focused on function at that time. My sighting technique was mainly point shooting at 10 yards. Groupings were mostly within the black of a B2 50' slow fire target.

When I got the pistol home (new), I field stripped, cleand and lubed with Gun butter products. Function, feed and extraction with all ammo was 100%.

I also have a Colt Officer's ACP, so I'm very comfortable with .45 recoil in a short barrel pistol. Recoil with the NA's alloy frame was no different IMO, very managable for me.

Been thinking about this for a couple of days now. When viewed from the read of the gun, the U channel itself looks a lot like a typical rear sight. Now, if the very front of the U was filled and painted white, then it should look a lot like a front sight. You would still have a flush slide top, but in essence have a traditional sight picture. You could probably even epoxy a short piece of fiber optic tube in the front.

I’m in my 10 day wait for one. I have been thinking similar things about possible mods to the sight. I’ve also seen a modification over at naaminis.com where tritium inserts are put directly in a Guardian slide to light up a gutter type sight.

Just a single front insert might be just the thing here. I've read some reports that if you try to use the trench as a fully aligned sight you'll shoot low, so apparently the correct sight picture with these is not the conventional one in any case.

I've been reading many postings and reviews of this pistol. One gentlemman fitted a small shotgun sight bead in the front of the trench. Looked pretty slick.

There's a newer version of the Agent, it's a DA only version.

Regarding this one, I've used the trough sight and it takes a bit of getting used to. You just need to keep the trough level front to back and put your target in the front of the trough - harder to explain than to do.

Guns Fishing & Stuff has one for sale - about $1,000.00 IIRC.
