Finally picked up my pistol this week. this is my first firearm and I have to say it was quite eye opening. I learned the following in the four months of research and saving the dough for my new family member =)

1. Customer service is a rare thing in the gun business.

2. When you find good customer service paying way to much for a gun makes it all a little less painful.

3. Why are all of these gun shops run down and a complete mess? for example...I might be able to find your $200 pistol safe if it wasn't under a pile of **** in the middle of the store. I mean who lays these places out?

One question..aren't you supposed to demonstrate safe use of your firearm when you pick it up? Cuz I didn't and I find that a little worrysome.

Well....Riflegear and Ammo Bros are the two shops I usually deal with and they have had great prices, great selection, and great customer service.

Where have you been going? Congrats on the 92fs purchase!

I know every purchase of a handgun I've had to. A buddy of mines who has way more pistols than I (got me started in shooting) still had to perform the demonstration when he picked up with Walther .22 last week.

Nice gun! I used to have a stainless 92fs and I liked it a lot. One question about the safe-handling demonstration: did you sign the paper saying that you performed the safe-handling demonstration? Because if you did sign it, yet you didn't perform the demonstration, I'm pretty sure that's perjury.

Apropos of nothing whatever, the safe-handling demonstration is a waste of my time and the gun store employee's time. I know how to handle a gun, I hate wasting my time with useless demonstrations to someone who probably knows less than I do about the subject.

I live in San Diego so I went to at least five gun stores in the surrounding area.

Regarding the safe handling demonstration I believe that entire section was crossed out by the employee who sold me the gun and I'm pretty sure that I didn't sign anything saying I completed a demonstration...but I signed alot of freaking paperwork! It's like buying a damn house!

^+1 My LGS knows me pretty well, so after about my 12th pistol purchase from them over the years, they pretty much skip the safe handling demo. I just sign.

lol, i did have one of their new employees have me do the safe handling run on my more recent purchase. More for his training though. This kid was kinda nervous reciting what he was scripted to say/do. So I just went through motions. All good. The owner and I grin'd and gave each other the (thanks for helping) nod as I walked out with my new purchase.

And I can add in ON TARGET in Laguna Niguel and OC ARMORY in Laguna Hills....both of those stores are FIRST RATE..!!!

Up the freeway a bit is the STOCKADE...another old, well respected store that has a WIDE selection of everything. Ya, retail city, but the customer service is fantastic. (neat reloading section in the back as well)

I had to LOL on your comment about messy gun stores...I kinda like going into those places..sure they've been around for decades and the owner (usually a mom and pop place) is a pack rat...hahahah...but I always approach these shops with a smile. The Gun business is hard, so I give them
my business when I can. Anyone remember old GEORGE at Saddleback Guns..?..what a messy place, George smoking his pipe..hahha..but he always
ordered what you wanted and 'no hurry Bob, I'll call you when it arrives..'

I guess I'm lucky, I live in a small town but we have a nice gun store...indoor range, always seems clean to me... great help. They put up with me and my questions anyway

There is customer service EVERYWHERE in the gun industry. Unfortunately the customer service you usually receive SUX.

B&G Guns out here in Oxnard is pretty on point with things after you visit them a few times and they get to know you. Can't say that I've had a bad experience with them.

So where are all the places you went to in SD? What were the good and bad? I can only think of two DECENT places in all of San Diego for customer service....actually...scratch that. Ones in oceanside, leaving only one in San Diego. Spill the info.

And just to head off possible replies...I'm sick of tihs I'd rather not say crap. If someone gives you terrible service, SAY SO. If you get great service, SAY SO(twice!).

I had some very poor gunshop experiences. As a result I found a very nice semi-retired guy in my area with an FFL who makes him money off transfers. Either private party (one guy showing up to sell the gun to another guy who shows up) or receiving your online purchase through he mail. That way I could shop online and find the deal I wanted on the gun I wanted, and the only person I had to deal with face to face was the nice semi-retired guy with the FFL. There are lots of guys that do this to make a little money on the side. So you might consider trying to find one near you. That way you don't have to deal with the gun store clerks. Ironically, my semi-retired guy is retiring for real now. So I have to find a new semi-retired guy to handle my transfers.

That said, I did find a really well run gun shop up near Sacramento (they are in Rocklin I think) that is nothing like the rest of them. The people at TDS Guns are great people who offer excellent customer service. The store is a very clean, very new, very well organized place to shop. They have a great selection on just about everything you can imagine. They have a very talented gunsmith on location. TDS Guns was just an all around great place to shop.

did you go to Discount Gun Mart? That range by Seaworld always looks like a bomb blew up in there. They once loss my order for a month and is the only place I've ever bought a gun where I didn't have to do the demonstration. Everywhere dully made me put in snap caps.
