    Need help

Hey guys, I am a newbie here. Little about me I am a Korean born in Russia, I moved to this great country(USA) 6 years ago. Currently residing in the Bay Area.
I am applying for the American Citizenship in May, and I am planning on applying for police and CHP this year as well.
So I would love to purchase a Glock 17 9mm for target practicing before I get into the Academy. I don't live in a bad neighbor hood, nor I have enemies but it will also be nice to have a gun just in case if some will try to break in.
I am currently 21, no criminal records. No gun or hunting license . What should be my first step in obtaining a handgun?

Thanks. All I know about citizen is that they can't transport handguns in car without a hunting rifle. I don't know how true that is but I just wanted to check.
Where do I take the gun safety class btw?

First, you can transport a handgun in a vehicle without having a rifle in the vehicle as well. That's actually the first time I've ever heard of it. Thanks for the laugh. Secondly, the "class" you are talking about is not a class. It's just a test that you can take at any gunshop. However, I suggest that you go to your local indoor range and see if they offer any classes before you just go buy a gun.

I believe that you are talkng about a hunting license, not a hunting rifle.

You will have to take the Hunter's safety class to get a hunting license.

I have a friend who is not a US citizen who legally owns and transports handguns in his car. No problem. Every gun law I have seen has the phrase "US citizen, legal resident, or visitor" when it comes to the right to have the gun. Of course, the usual "no kids, no felons, etc." restriction applies.

                Here's the HSC study guide:

Practice the operations of the gun, practice safety, and have fun.

                  Thank you!
Now I just have to pass the test and I will post again when it will come to purchasing the weapon.

???? Please explain why it would be illegal for a "kid" (I assume you mean under 18) to transport a firearm. AFAIK, it's perfectly legal as long as certain provisions are met. In fact, there are restrictions that all adults must follow too.

Ilya (if this is who I think it is) get my number from Zhora and call me today (it's Erik). If not, I'm sorry, but PM me for more info. If you have a green card, you are required to have 3 months proof of residency in order to buy a gun. Long-gun, handgun, no difference, you still need 3 months proof of residence. This can be utility bills, a lease agreement, car registration (from 3 different months). You also need to take and pass the HSC course, and have a valid CDL matching the address on the proof of residence.

I think that you should be required to take a grammar and spelling test in order to be allowed to vote. Yea, doesn't make much sense either does it? Cut the anti-immigrant bullchit out.
