    1911 Magazine Quality

Anyone have knowledge/ experience with 1911 magazines from this supplier?

    Joe's 1911 Magmania http://www.joes1911magmania.com/

Quality product or not? The prices sure are reasonable. They/ he doesn't say who the manufacturer is.

With those prices I personally would stick with Chip McCormick mags.

We don't know the manufacture, so I wouldn't buy them.
I prefer, Metalform and Checkmate Industries manufactured 1911 mags.

I would stick with Wilson or Tripp. 1911s can be picky with mags better to stick with what works. Haven't had a lot of experence with Chips, but others seem to like them.

I'd pass unless it can verified with certainty who the manufacturer is and only if that manufacturer is a good one like Metalform or Checkmate. I prefer Wilson or Chips but those are obviously neither.

Maybe if you want to try this out. Buy them and change the inners (spring and followers) with wilson combat. I had some old colt 10rds. that the follower was getting stuck and getting off center or something maybe a weak spring and the follower would tilt. So i bought this kits.
Wilson Combat has been the innovator in custom pistols, long guns, and accessories since 1977. Home of the Wilson Combat 1911, EDC X9, WCP320, and more!

But see if its worth buying both ,you might as well buy good mags depending on the total$$.

Ditto. All my FTF's have been linked with inexpensive mags. It's just not worth it, especially if it is your HD or SHTF gun...

In my SA 1911, I had one wilson 47D for it and it was either out of spec or my SA dint like it. So I ended up buying a Chip mag after. Never had a problem with it, so I bought another 6 of them. Ive stuck with Chip mags ever since. Their customer service is awesome too especially if your looking for small parts.

                    These:

Are identical to my 8-round stainless Chip Shooting Stars.

And here's a picture of a Chip to compare:

I'm guessing that at least some of his stuff is Chip McCormick Shooting Stars, magazines with which I've never had a single problem in any of my 1911's.

                    Others look like ACT Magazines:

                    compared with:

(basing this only on the follower design, I'll admit). I've heard good and bad about ACT magazines.

For the prices the guy wants, I'd be willing to buy one of each and take them apart to compare with known-good mags. 1911 mags don't have to cost a metric (short) ton of cash. 90% of what you pay for is the rollmark/stamp these days.

That does not mean there aren't bad repros out there (there are all sorts of claimed USGI mags out there that are crappy Chinese knockoffs that don't work worth beans). But these look like Chips and that seems to correlate with what the guy says on the page. I think I'll be picking up a few in the next week, just to see.

It makes sense to find out who makes them before calling them cheap. I wouldn't call Chip McCormick's bad or cheap.

I'm calling the ones for sale on that site cheap.

Who cares about Chip here anyway?

Cheap in price, sure. But so what? That doesn't mean they are junk. AR mags are a valid comparison. There are plenty of quality, well-made AR mags that don't cost an arm and a leg.

And besides that, Chip McCormick mags have always done well for me - I certainly don't consider them junk.

My concern is that without him stating a manufacturer, he could change suppliers at anytime and send you a mag of different quality without notice.

It is like buying mounts for an AR and finding out that they are just copies intended for airsoft guns
