    East Bay Gunsmith needed

Hey folks, just picked up a Colt series 70 1911 with the collet bushing. I was told by the seller that the slide was sticking a bit every once in a while, so before I take it to the range, I would like to have a proper bushing installed. So who's the go-to guy in the east bay (concord area) for this kind of work? And is there a particular bushing I should look for? Thanks.

I've heard of a place called American Blueing in Rodeo. I have NOT been there, so I'm not sure. And there's one in San Bruno (far), Tabor's.

Assuming you shoot at USI, ask Larry the rangemaster (on Sundays anyways). If he isn't da man himself, I'm sure he can tell you who is.

However, based on threads I've seen on 1911 forums, you may just want to order an Ed Brown drop-in bushing. You can't go wrong for $20.

I found a guy in Castro Valley that seems VERY knowledgeable about these things, and had a very nice shop. He found that the problem was that a bit of the barrel was ground down by some debris, and he is going to polish in out and replace with a fitted bushing. I'll keep you guys posted on how it comes out.

What do you mean by this statement in bold? The collet bushing is the correct bushing for a 70 Series GM. You can have a solid bushing fitted.

Check with Diablo Valley Gun Works in Pleasant Hill.

I didn't mean era correct. I meant properly designed. I don't know many folks who support the design of the collet bushing, and even Colt decided it wasn't all it was cracked up to be considering to stopped production after one series, and never brought it back.

But yes, I mean modern solid bushing.
