    X81 HSC Exemption

    X81 = P.O.S.T. 832 PC (Firearms) Training
    What do we need to have in order to prove this exemption to the doj?

    Bring your 832 PC + Firearms certificate issued at the successful completion of the course.

        Make a copy as the FFL will want to keep it on file for the next audit. Had CA DOJ call the FFL asking for it to be faxed up one time.

          Best thing about the X81 exemption, it does not expire.
          Once you get your certificate, it's good for life or until the laws change.

            FYI: Ensure the P.O.S.T. 832 PC (Firearms) Certificate has the POST Certification number listed on it. Make a copy for the FFL, they'll need to show where your HSC exemption came from the next time they get audited.

            Hopefully, the law doesn't change, because the Cert is good for life!

              Is that true even though a PC832 certificate is only good for three years unless you get hired as an LEO?
              The PC 832 Arrest and Firearms Course is the minimum training standard for California peace officers.

              It appears that you could argue the certificate itself is still good for HSC exemption purposes, just not usable for employment as a peace officer without re-qualification...

                The Cert is good for life as an HSC exemption (current law). As for getting hired as an LEO you are correct it is only good for three years from the date of issue unless you recert. Hope this helps clarify.

                    I have a current HSC and a PC832 cert that I received after I had renewed my HSC. Nice to know I won't have to bother with that test again...

                      I have PC 832 firearms. I am HSC exempt. That's all it's good for as far as firearms purchases go. Mine "expired" for LEO purposes about 2 years ago. That's ok... because all I need to do to "reactivate" it is take a new class or re-test/re-qual and I'm good for another 3 years. I've never had an HSC... Ever. Of course, now that I've got my CCW, that's also it's own HSC exemption as long as the CCW is valid.

                        Forgot about the CCW exemption, that's another one that I've got too...

                          Until you run into an FFL who won't accept it, and will not complete the sale without an HSC.
