    M&P Serial Numbers

So I've searched the M&P forums, asked around and googled and searched calguns... By now I think I should have just sent the 50 bucks in for a history report. The date code on my M&P9 is MEP3XXX. The striker spring cup is from a rendition "A", so does anybody know when the "A" renditions were made? I purchased mine used, and it came with literally nothing but the small backstrap and one mag. When was it made?!
    I fly everywhere backwards.

Assuming this is an M&P9 full size... have you checked this thread here?

Sorry I can't help you much more than that. If you had the original packaging, there is a date code stamped on every SKU that S&W manufactures that would give you the exact date of production.

The other source of "born on" info would have been the empty shell casing from the test firing that comes with almost every pistol.

What's the code look like and how do you decipher it? I have the original box for an M&P 9mm that I bought used and the only number on the sticker that isn't obvious is 6194.

My M&P40c has SN MEP25xx. The "born on" date on the casing label is 05-02-2008.
There's no obvious date on the box label.

Above the SKU is a four-digit code that breaks down as follows:

first digit indicates year of manufacture. e.g. 9 would be 2009, 0 would be 2010
last three digits indicate day of manufacture, numbered from 1-365.

So in my case, my number is 9243, which corresponds to 2009, day 243 = 31 Aug. This is exactly the test fire date on the spent shell casing.

6194 would equate to July of 2006, or thereabouts.

my serial # is above the SKU, is this the number you're talking about?

below the SKU is a really small #, which is 0270, and below that i can barely make out the letters which i think says "swfgrew"
