Blazer Brass or Blazer aluminum for range use. Very clean. accurate and reliable.

For self/home defense Speer Gold Dots. Probably the best available HP for SD today, atleast for civilians.

The best? For self-defense? Yeah, the Speer Gold Dots have always been great. I really love the Cor-Bon 185gr +P Speers too.

For the range? WWB or whatever is cheapest.

Anything factory, anything cheap and factory, but certainly not cheap reloads.

Wal-Mart is a great first start. Blazer Brass or WWB Value Packs.

It's more about the Indian than the arrow.

A guy won a buck off me using my 1943 colt 1911, I didn't think he could hit the long range gong (I think it a manhole cover strung up at like 500 yards) within one clip of ammo (wolf cheap junk) he hit it the sixth round and collected a bunch of 1$ bills from all of us who were standing around watching.

that being said golden sabres are prety good for HD

Many may disagree with me but Wolf is some of the most accurate ammo I have shot. It really depends on what your gun likes. Try a few different manufacturers and see if you can notice any difference. 1911's are typically a little more sensitive to ammunition than other more modern .45's.

I've used Federal American Eagle and Winchester White Box without problems in my 1911. Both 230 gr FMJ.
