    Old 1911A1

"grandfathered" in? HYPOTHETICALLY, if My step moms husband died and she kept some pistols he had. One of which was a 1911 stamped "u.s. army"... would it be legal for us to own/shoot it? No papers on record...

It's your mothers pistol now. You can shot it and/or she can give it to you.

No worries there. Lots were sold through the NRA and even if some sticky fingered GI brought it home in 1945. No one will ever know.

              Shoot it and enjoy it.

And is it a 1911 or a 1911A1? You should look up the serial and see what it was made, might be interesting to know.

If it has the finger reliefs behind the trigger guard it's a 1911A1.
                            1911 did not have these.
