Well I ordered about 1500 rounds of 45 ACP just to do it before i couldn't now i have all this ammo and no gun to shoot it out of

Now I've got to decide what gun to purchase, I really like the look of 1911's I've never shot one before but it feels good in my hand. Can't remember the brand or model as it was a year or so ago.

My new deer rifle and ar kinda put this investment on the backburner

I'm looking for recommendations around 4"-5" barrel in the 800-900$ range and I can handle it from there.

Go to your local pistol range (bring a friend) and rent a few different .45s. The one that's best for you is the one that fits your hand the most comfortably.

i'd pick up a starter 1911 (they hold their value since they are popular). RIA, taurus, etc. or even used.

personally I like the RIA 1911 because of price and performance, but for your price range you could probably get Colt

I'm kind of in the same boat as you.
I need a new 45, but don't know what to get. Of course I'd like a $2000 1911, but don't have that type of money. Plastic 45's have never really peeked my interest before. I enjoy shooting the XD45 and M&P45, but it's just not the same as a 1911. The glocks just feel better to me in the smaller calibers for some reason.

So for now I guess I'll just wait and maybe try to save up some money for a nice 1911. Either that or I'm going to just get a RIA, which I've heard great things about.

I figured if worse came to worse I could FTF transfer it and recoup $ plus i always wanted a 45 just a bit of motivation .

Kinda like i wanted to build an AR so i bought the upper first to force myself to finish it

I own 2, but I used to have all 3 (don't have the Springfield). If you want an RIA, get the Tactical. If you want a Springfield, get at least a loaded. I don't really care for the GI or Milspec versions of the 1911. The Sig P220 is good, but I prefer the Single Action only version. If you want plastic, I hear good things about the Smith and Wesson M&P with the Apex upgrades.

Glock 21! Easy to shoot, maintain, upgradeable, and easy to sell if you end up not liking it.

for $800-900, i'd go for a springfield loaded and be done with it.

RIA tacticals are great too, and a good 200-300 dollars cheaper. they're probably equally proficient shooters, and both are solid products. the springfield is "nicer" because of the forged frame and depending on model, better quality internals.

fwiw i own a RIA GI and would not hesitate to buy another. but if i had ~$1000 to spend i'd get a loaded. then again, if you can save even more, 1200-ish gets you into used Dan Wesson or maybe even TRP territory.
