Shot Show fun: M&P .22 (no, not the rifle)

    Saw this at GunNuts.net:

It is actually here – consider this S&W’s apology for the Governor!  The new M&P-22 is exactly what we’d hoped for, a .22 LR version of the M&P pistol, which has the exact same dimensions at the 9mm and .40 S&W pistols.  If you’re looking for a dedicated .22LR trainer to go with your M&P...

I'd worry more about if it will be on the CA "safe gun" roster... If not, maybe the guys at Valkyrie Arms can help us out...

Exciting that this is for real though... rumors have been circulating the past couple months now... something to look forward to later this year I guess!

if they make it with a 10"ish barrel with a non-convincing fake can so the thing can take advantage of hyper velocity .22lr that would do nicely.

I'm sure it'll make the CA DOJ roster (if it still exists ). It'll have both the mag disc and LCI, and the owners manual written on the slide.

I'm pretty excited provided it runs. Most .22 versions of their centerfire counterparts don't do as well, but I'm staying optimistic. A .22 M&P sounds like a lot of fun.

            haha, no joke there!

but yeah, i'd totally get a .22 version of my M&P... the only problem though, is that it has the external thumb safety, which might prevent it from fitting into any of my holsters for the M&P9.

the other silly question would be if you could put Apex Tactical parts into it......

The thumb safety is pretty easy to remove on the full-caliber M&Ps...I imagine (hope) that the bottom half will be identical to a M&P9 anyway, so you should be able to remove the thumb safety and put in an APEX RAM and hard sear.

Yeah, it does depend if the internal safeties are present in the .22 version though... not sure I'd want to remove the thumb safety right off. It looks like they kept the split-trigger safety at least, based on photographs, but I'd want to know what the internal setup is like before ditching the external thumb lever.

A better deal would be if the .22LR slide/barrel assembly could just be retrofitted onto a full-scale M&P as an option...

The M&P 22 pistol is a hammer fired gun, the outside is the only thing that resembles an M&P. The rest is all new parts. We're going to have to look into the system to assess if we're going to make parts for it or not.

I posted this last week in another SHOT thread. Looks pretty cool, but made in Germany?

Made by Walther for S&W. Walther and S&W collaborate on a couple different handguns IIRC.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

I vote for that too...look how well the Sig conversion kits are selling for. No DROS since it's not a gun, aluminum slide w/integral extractor and stainless barrel
