So I inherited a pistol from my step-father who died recently. I had seen it several time before and even fired it once. But when I picked it up the slide was half off and badly binded to the frame. It looks like he tried to field strip it and something went wrong. The pistol is a beretta 84f .380 cal blowback. Not sure on what to do from here. Any suggestions would surely help. And sorry for poor structure by I'm on my iPhone. I have pics of the pistol to show the problem but can't figure out how to post them from my phone.

Dont' tap it with a rubber mallet.. I only say this because from "my" viewpoint, unless you know what you're doing, you can potentially damage the gun..
RIght now from the looks of it, it seems the recoil rod is wedged between the frame and teh barrel. looks like someone tried to remove the slide from the gun but somehow got the recoil rod stuck.. the barrel, recoil rod and slide need to be removed as a group, simultaneously... The hammer is also in the wrong position.. Someone either cocked it or it was never moved forward during the takedown process.. try returning the slide and barrel to the proper place then have the hammer moved to the down position before trying to disassemble it..
I would try moving the slide and barrel back onto the gun.. do not simply pull on the slide rearward, but find something (piece of wood) to push the barrel rearward.. or move the hammer forward (but not letting it slam against the frame)
this might work or i could be completely wrong, so take all advice with a grain of salt.. if you're not sure then I would really take it to a gunsmith and specifically ask them if they knew what they were doing.. Do not let them try to "figure" it out..Aloha snackbar!Comment
