5906 for a USP

Talk me out of it fellas, times are hard but I have the bug to get a USP. SO Im thinking about selling my 3rd gen stainless S&W 5906 with hi-caps that I have had since the 1991 to fund a USP. It's my only pistol but never really shoot it because I perceive it to be too heavy for me. I've seen them sell for good money here so I thought I'd put it up. Will I regret it? What I think I will miss most though are the mags... Am I nuts?

You can't sell the hicaps.

You'll have to sell them as disassembled parts, and the buyer should understand he can't reassemble them.

A 5906 with hicaps is way better than a USP anyway.

I love the 3rd gen Smiths so for me personally, I wouldn't sell it.

ETA: Hopefully the whole standard capacity mag work around will happen. I'd love some 17 rounders for my 5904

I love Smith wheelies, but have no use for their autos - go with the USP.

Personally, I love my USPf 9mm (and its pre-ban hi-cap mags)---on the other hand, by the time Smith got to the 3rd. Gen guns, they were well sorted, if heavy. Tough call.

I would keep the 5906 since they are rare to find plus the "plus" that you have hi-caps

Sometimes you just gotta give in. When you start losing sleep, it may be time to commit. I was able to afford my USP by selling items that I hadn't used in over a year, like a few car parts and a lever gun. My idea was to make more room and buy something that I'll actually put to use.

Keep the 5906 with the "high" cap mags. You can get an HK at a later time.

Keep the 5906. It's becoming increasingly difficult to find those in California. They are good, solid handguns especially the pre-MIM models. It took me a while to find mine.

I don't know what your financial situation is but try to figure out a way to get the USP without sellling the 5906.

I like the S&W autos, but also the USP's, so I would have both!

Keep the 5906 and the hi caps.

At this point the Hi-Caps can't be sold, and you won't be able to obtain Hi-Caps for the USP.
Find another way to fund a USP.

I agree with most of the responses and I'll regale you with a story.

In 1984 I bought a S&W 659 loved it, but the damn FBI/Miami shootout happened and the 10mm came to be, being young and having to have the cool stuff, I sold my 659 for a 1006, easily the most difficult gun I ever shot, including a 44 mag with magnum loads. Fast forward to 9-11, went to buy new ammo for my 10 and found the cupboard empty and considered selling it but hung on to it for a while (BTW this was my only gun at the time). Fast forward 2 and in August of 09 I found it was worth much more than previously estimated so I sold to a nice calguns member and purchased a USPc in .40s&w I love that gun. BUT! I regretted selling my 659 for the 1006 and the 1006 for the HK. I have since replaced the 659 (From another calgunner) and I replaced the 1006 with a nearly identical 5906, but I feel I need a 4506 to completely fill the hole!

Keep it, save your money and buy the HK you will never regret it!

Don't sell it! You'll regret it later. These are mine and currently use them as my standby as first line of defense. I have owned the 5906 since the early 90s, won it off a prize table at a local USPSA sanctioned match. I did have a nickeled 469 and ended up selling it thinking I didn't need it due to having the 5906. I was wrong, I missed it the first week I sold it and vowed to have another or maybe a 6906. I'll never sell again.
