CIA specific .22 lr

I've used the search and haven't found anything on it, so I'm going to post and see if anyone can answer this for me.

I work at an indoor range. A while back a gentleman brought in a semi-auto pistol chambered in .22 lr. He told me a story about that firearm. In the '60s or '70s the CIA wanted a firearm specific for their agency with each weapon specific to an agent and had a certain number of them made and were fielded. Shortly afterwards someone realized that having a firearm specific only to them wasn't such a great idea and tried to have them all recalled and destroyed.

This guy bought his off some retired agent who somehow got away with not turning in his weapon. If anyone is familiar with this story, my question is what was the manufacturer of this firearm? I remember it started with a C.

A seller here on calguns was selling a similar pistol not too long ago. The thread was deleted, but google has a cached version (and the pictures are still up!)

The make/model was "Plainfield Model 71"
